In issue #6, the extraordinary Wonder Woman transitions from battling monstrous beings to mixing with deities, but both realms can be just as dangerous. In the first installment of “The Lady or The Tiger,” we find Absolute Wonder Woman revisiting the underworld for a crucial showdown that sheds light on Diana’s background and her path up until now. The risks are at an all-time high, and this comic is no less visually captivating.
In issue #6 of “Wonder Woman: Absolute”, the narrative continues from where it left off in the previous issue, with Diana confronting Hades in the underworld. The stunning artwork and vibrant colors by Mattia De Iulis captivate you right from the start, setting a tone of awe and grandeur that persists throughout the pages.
In a captivating, otherworldly manner, whether it’s about Diana and Hades exchanging sharp words, the resurfacing of myths, or an account of triumph over a Basilisk, everything has a cinematic flair. Moreover, Becca Carey’s lettering continues to shine, elevating both minor and grand moments to extraordinary heights.
Kelly Thompson excels at integrating grand, memorable scenes with subtle character nuances that make these scenes deeply significant. This talent is evident once more in this issue. Although other confrontations are highly engaging, some of the issue’s most powerful moments occur on Mount Prometheus. I won’t reveal all the details, but the dialogue that ensues is enlightening regarding Diana’s connection to her environment, her interactions with the gods, and the influence of Circe’s upbringing.
In addition, we delve deeper into crucial aspects affecting Wonder Woman, providing vital context. Similar to previous issues, these journeys through time seem to enrich her current relationships and decisions. To put it simply, we could also enjoy a series of six issues where Wonder Woman tactfully deals with Hades, and that would suffice since her interactions with him are flawless.
This extraordinary version of Wonder Woman consistently upholds the pioneering concepts the Absolute collection initially set forth. However, it’s not just a faithful adaptation; it embodies the essence of Wonder Woman in a way that resonates deeply, and it’s unlikely to lower its lofty standards any time soon.
