Absolute Wonder Woman’s New Sword Puts Cloud Strife’s to Shame

In the latest issue Absolute Wonder Woman #4, Wonder Woman demonstrates an unprecedented level of skill and power. Equipped with her magical abilities and enchanted broadsword, she was already a formidable warrior on the battlefield. However, this comic pushes those capabilities to uncharted territories. Not only does Wonder Woman successfully cast a spell to restore her arm, but she also sets out to craft the ultimate weapon against Tetracide. To achieve such a feat, a massive sword is required, and that’s exactly what Wonder Woman decides to do – significantly enhancing her Athena Blade. While there have been past comparisons to Cloud Strife’s Buster Sword from Final Fantasy, this updated version leaves Cloud’s sword far behind in terms of size and power.

Following the successful subduing of Tetracide to prevent it from consuming city residents, it was now crucial to bring down this colossal foe. To achieve this, Diana required an extraordinary weapon that would match its size. With Pegasus by her side and her arm healed, she prepared to enhance her sword with the magical components she had recently obtained, empowering it for the upcoming battle.

Diana summons the mighty Athena Sword and confides she’s got a brilliant idea for it. As she guides the beast towards the shoreline, Wonder Woman causes the sword to grow colossal, its edge piercing the heavens. Diana pleads,” Goddess Athena, empower your humble servant to strike accurately. May the Athena Sword shatter upon it like waves carving through rock!



In this scenario, Wonder Woman invokes her mother’s power, appealing, “Mother, although I am far away from home, grant me your might, your unwavering belief, your unyielding spirit!” As you can observe in the pictures, despite being minuscule even compared to the handle of the sword, she demonstrates immense power by striking from the sky and bringing down the blade with authority, cleanly cutting through the Tetracide as if it were merely a slice of cake, ultimately vanquishing it in the process.

In the beginning, there were many similarities drawn between the updated Athena Blade from Wonder Woman and Cloud Strife’s iconic sword from the video games, which seemed fitting. However, this revamped version of the Athena Blade is in a league of its own, outshining even the Buster Sword. That being said, it’s important to remember that Cloud still has potential for surprises, especially considering there’s another game in the remake trilogy yet to come. So, it’s possible that he may rise to meet the new competition at some point.

As a devoted fan, I’ve been thrilled to catch up with the creative geniuses behind Absolute Wonder Woman – author Kelly Thompson and artist Hayden Sherman. They’ve shared some exciting insights about Diana’s fresh new weapon, and it’s clear that Sherman is relishing the comparisons as he brings his artistic vision to life!

Sherman commented, “I enjoy being referred to as the Buster Sword, just as much as everyone else does. In fact, I admire that sentiment because I’m a fan of Cloud Strife too. It amuses me, though, when in various depictions and fan art I encounter, the sword I designed is essentially a large, rectangular shape, and people still recognize it as the Buster Sword, even going so far as to remove the tip and rename it the Cloud Sword. Frankly, I find it entertaining.

Diana takes an extraordinary step in order to survive the lethal Tetracide, which is known as ‘The Four Destroyer’. This decision might give her a chance to fight another time, but the cost she paid is too heavy for her to bear.
