Acclaim’s Epic Comeback: Nostalgia Meets New Ventures in Gaming!

Gamers from the 80s and 90s era might have encountered the logo for the game publisher Acclaim at some point in their lives. Known for introducing numerous cherished franchises onto consoles such as the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) and Sega Genesis, Acclaim was responsible for hits like the combative series Mortal Kombat, the dinosaur-shooting game Turok, and the groundbreaking arcade basketball title NBA Jam. Regrettably, the company ceased operations in 2004. However, more than two decades later, Acclaim is making a comeback with plans to “reinvigorate the gaming industry.

According to a recent announcement, the updated Acclaim version aims to achieve its objective by assisting independent game developers and resurrecting some of its iconic game series. The publisher has pledged to offer resources such as funding, marketing, PR assistance, among others, to the studios that partner with them. However, they haven’t shared which franchises will be revived or which indie studios they plan to collaborate with yet. But Acclaim’s new CEO, Alex Josef, hinted at revealing this information soon.

Josef expressed great joy and esteem as he takes on the role of spearheading the resurgence of Acclaim in the gaming industry. Fortunately for us, our team is incredibly gifted, and we’ve secured some exceptional indie games that we can’t wait to share with everyone soon.

Josef boasts over two decades of involvement in the gaming sector, with a significant portion of his expertise lying in market analysis and publication. He is the brains behind VIM Global, a PR and marketing firm that has assisted in launching numerous titles such as Guacamelee, Super Mega Baseball, and Human Fall Flat.

To achieve the objective of reviving popular series from its past, Acclaim has established a strategic advisory panel. This panel includes Russell Binder from Striker Entertainment, Mark Caplan of Ridge Partners, and Jeff Jarrett representing Global Force Entertainment.

> For over three decades, I’ve been honored to participate in both the wrestling and gaming worlds, and I’m ecstatic about my new role as a partner in reviving Acclaim – a legendary publisher famous for launching some of the most iconic games from the ’80s and ’90s. From my initial work on Acclaim’s successful 16-bit WWF titles to my experience helping create the TNA Wrestling series, which gave rise to the first video game wrestler to become a permanent roster member in the ring, I’ve witnessed the power of exceptional games on players and enthusiasts. Bringing Acclaim back to life presents an opportunity to share the same passion and dedication with a new audience, and I’m eager to be part of this journey.

In conclusion, the expansion plan for Acclaim is backed by Phil Toronto from VaynerFund and Eric Vogel of JET Management.
