What you need to know

  • During IFA, Acer announced seven upcoming monitors of various types and with various features. Among these new displays are two Predator gaming monitors, four Nitro gaming monitors, and an Acer monitor.
  • As part of this announcement, Acer states that some of these Nitro monitors are “UltraSpeed” displays with super high refresh rates and speedy response times.
  • Arguably the most impressive “UltraSpeed” display is a 24.1-inch offering that can reach up to 1920 x 1080 resolution while at an insane 600Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time.
  • These monitors are offered at various prices and will release at different times between Q4 2024 and beyond.

As a seasoned gamer and tech enthusiast who has spent countless hours immersed in virtual worlds, I must say that Acer’s latest lineup of gaming monitors is truly impressive. Each monitor caters to different needs, from the high-end Predator series to the more budget-friendly Nitro models.

At the IFA event today, electronics manufacturer Acer unveiled seven upcoming gaming monitors. Two of these belong to the premium Predator lineup, three are part of the budget-friendly Nitro series, and the last one is a regular Acer monitor. Acer reveals that many of these displays come equipped with WebOS (a smart operating system), while the Nitro models also offer “UltraSpeed” features featuring extremely high refresh rates and quick response times

Without a doubt, the standout feature among the “UltraSpeed” displays is the Nitro XV240 F6 – a Full High Definition (FHD) display boasting an incredibly fast 600Hz refresh rate and quick response time as low as 0.1ms from G-to-G

When introducing this series of monitors, Acer aims to broaden its product line to cater to various applications. However, it emphasizes that the latest UltraSpeed displays distinguish themselves among their counterparts. “The newly launched Acer Nitro gaming monitors offer ultra-high definition resolutions paired with lightning-fast refresh rates of up to 600 Hz, positioning them among the swiftest available today. They also incorporate quick response times of up to 0.1ms and AMD FreeSync Premium technology for seamless, artifact-free gaming experience.”

Let’s look at each of the seven displays announced today.

Predator XB273U F5 is a high-end dream

Acer just announced multiple "UltraSpeed" gaming monitors — One offers an insane 600Hz at 1080p

The top item on the list is the high-end Predator XB273U F5 gaming monitor. This monitor boasts a 27-inch IPS display that can display at 2560 x 1440 resolution and an impressive 360Hz refresh rate through both its HDMI and DisplayPort inputs. It also has an incredibly fast response time of only 0.05ms, and to ensure smooth motion, it is compatible with NVIDIA G-Sync technology

The Predator XB273U F5 monitor has a wide color range, featuring High Dynamic Range (HDR) and a peak brightness of 550 nits when HDR is activated. This makes for a quality viewing experience. Additionally, it boasts a viewing angle of 178 degrees, both vertically and horizontally, ensuring you can see good picture quality even if not directly in front of the screen

This monitor, somewhat sparsely equipped in terms of ports, has only two HDMI 2.1 ports and a DisplayPort 1.4. Nevertheless, it boasts two 5W speakers, which is commendable given that many gaming monitors lack any speakers whatsoever. It remains uncertain as to the price of this monitor or its release date

Predator XB273K V5 is designed to offer great picture quality and motion clarity

The newly unveiled premium gaming monitor is the Predator XB273K V5 with a size of 27 inches. It boasts an IPS panel capable of delivering a 4K resolution of 3840 x 2160 @ 160Hz, whether you connect it via its HDMI 2.1 or DisplayPort 1.4 ports. This monitor can respond as quickly as 0.5ms, making it ideal for showing the latest visual signals from your laptop or desktop with ease

In contrast to the prior display, this one utilizes AMD FreeSync Premium instead of NVIDIA G-Sync for its Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) technology. Consequently, if linked to a computer or screen featuring an AMD Graphics Processing Unit (GPU), motion clarity will appear notably smooth

As per Acer’s specifications, this monitor boasts HDR400 technology and can achieve a peak brightness of 400 nits, which is commendable, though not extraordinary. The advantage here is that you can comfortably position yourself at an angle in front of it without compromising the view. This versatility is made possible by both the wide 178° viewing angle and the adjustable stand, which allows tilting, swiveling, pivoting, and height adjustment

According to Acer, the Predator XB273K V5 monitor will be released in North America by the end of Q4 2024. The initial Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for this gaming monitor is $499.99

Nitro XV240 F6 has an insane 600Hz refresh rate

Acer just announced multiple "UltraSpeed" gaming monitors — One offers an insane 600Hz at 1080p

Previously, I was amazed by a gaming monitor I assessed last year, which could hit 360Hz. However, the latest Acer “UltraSpeed” 24.1-inch Nitro XV240 F6 gaming monitor takes it to another level. It can achieve an astounding 600Hz refresh rate when connected via DisplayPort and boasts a resolution of up to 1920 x 1080. This high refresh rate pairs with a swift 0.01ms response time, which is truly remarkable. What’s more, with an AMD GPU-equipped computer, you can expect exceptionally smooth motion clarity from this monitor due to its AMD FreeSync Premium support

As a researcher studying displays, I’d like to highlight an interesting panel type that stands out from the rest on this list: Twisted Nematic (TN), a LCD technology renowned for its speed and power efficiency compared to the commonly used In-Plane Switching (IPS) panels. This efficiency likely contributes to it achieving 600Hz refresh rate. However, it’s worth noting that this display isn’t terrible but could benefit from improved brightness. To be specific, it can reach up to 400 nits, which, although not awful, might not be the ideal level of brightness for some users

Besides boasting two HDMI 2.1 ports and one DisplayPort 1.4, this monitor comes equipped with built-in 2W speakers to eliminate the need for buying external ones, unless you prefer otherwise. The Asus Nitro XV240 F6 is set to debut in North America during Q1 of 2025, and it will carry a starting price of $499.99

Nitro XV270 F5 also offers an incredible refresh rate at 520Hz

Looking at a 600Hz display may have left you feeling unimpressed, but let me tell you, a 27-inch IPS FHD monitor boasting a max refresh rate of 520Hz is still exceptionally fast. What’s more, this high refresh rate can be achieved using both HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4 connections. To top it off, this monitor also features a lightning-fast response time of just 0.05ms and AMD FreeSync Premium compatibility, ensuring smooth, clear motion when gaming or watching fast-paced content

Regarding the other aspects of image clarity, this monitor boasts an excellent 178-degree viewability in both vertical and horizontal directions. Additionally, it offers a maximum brightness of 400 nits, which is satisfactory though it could be slightly improved

Instead of the earlier-mentioned monitors, this one comes with two USB 3.2 ports and an audio output connection for connecting extra devices. Additionally, it features built-in 2W speakers, allowing you to bypass buying separate computer speakers unless you desire superior sound quality

It has a starting price of $599.99 and should launch in North America in Q1 2025.

Nitro XV270U F5 is yet another impressive display

The Acer Nitro XV270U F5 monitor continues to showcase the impressive “UltraSpeed” performance of Nitro displays by Acer, boasting a remarkable refresh rate of up to 500Hz when displaying a resolution of 2560 x 1440. This high refresh rate can be achieved via HDMI 2.1 or DisplayPort 1.4 connections. Additionally, the quick 0.05ms response time and AMD FreeSync Premium technology aim to deliver smooth motion clarity for gamers

It’s worth noting that Acer claims the maximum brightness for this IPS display is just 250 nits, making it rather dim compared to other displays. For optimal viewing, it’s recommended to use this screen in a relatively dark environment

This device isn’t very versatile when it comes to connecting devices other than displays as it only has display ports. But, on the bright side, it does have built-in 2W speakers, which means you can enjoy your music, play games, or watch movies without requiring additional external speakers

In Q1 of 2025, you’ll have an opportunity to purchase the Nitro XV270U F5 monitor in North America. Its manufacturer’s suggested retail price is set at $799.99

Acer CS322QK is a monitor for daily use

Instead of fitting in among the gaming monitors like Nitro and Predator in this list, the 31.5-inch Acer CS322QK stands out. This is not a gaming monitor; instead, it’s designed as a smart monitor that Acer markets as ideal for individuals working from home or those who enjoy streaming content

This display featuring IPS technology offers a high resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels at a refresh rate of up to 60Hz, boasting a response time of just 14ms. It supports both HDMI 2.0 and USB-C connections for your convenience, in addition to an RJ45 internet port and a USB 2.0 port. Unlike similar monitors on this page, it does not support Variable Refresh Rate (VRR). However, it comes equipped with built-in 3W dual speakers that let you enjoy music or shows without the need for external speakers

Regarding its visual clarity, this monitor isn’t exceptionally bright, falling short of optimal at 350 nits. Yet, it boasts an impressive viewing angle and is compatible with HDR10, extending its color spectrum beyond many competing monitors

Acer CS322QK will launch in North America in Q4 2024 with a starting price of $599.99.

Nitro GS272U M is the budget gaming monitor

Acer just announced multiple "UltraSpeed" gaming monitors — One offers an insane 600Hz at 1080p

As a dedicated gaming enthusiast, I’ve just reached the final Acer monitor for today, the Nitro GS272U M. Unlike its predecessors, it’s the only WQHD display on this page, setting itself apart with a commendable refresh rate across its three connectivity options. Although it might not outshine some of the other monitors mentioned earlier, it certainly holds its ground in terms of overall performance. With a max resolution of 2560 x 1440 and the ability to reach a maximum refresh rate of 144Hz via HDMI 2.0, 180Hz via DisplayPort 1.2, and an impressive 180Hz via USB-C, this monitor is a solid choice for gamers seeking smooth visuals

This monitor’s response time of 5ms is decent, but not as swift as some other models out there. Interestingly, it lacks Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) technology to prevent screen tearing. Moreover, its brightness maxes out at just 250 nits, which is relatively dim compared to others. It appears these compromises contribute to making the monitor more budget-friendly

Among the monitors featured here, the Nitro GS272U M boasts the most affordable price point, beginning at $349.99. Anticipated availability in North America is scheduled for the first quarter of 2025

Do you really need a gaming monitor with that high of a refresh rate?

In my assessment of the 360Hz Alienware gaming monitor last year, I mentioned that the screen was stunning, but suggested that such a high refresh rate would primarily benefit a niche audience, specifically eSports players and professional gamers. Reflecting on this while examining Acer’s latest models, it seems that this perspective remains valid

At a certain stage, having an extremely fast refresh rate like 600Hz becomes less advantageous for users, as there’s not much additional benefit beyond a specific point. Therefore, while 600Hz is undeniably impressive and mind-blowing compared to what we’ve seen in the past, it might not be essential or particularly useful beyond that threshold

In summary, it’s delightful to witness advancements in gaming monitors, particularly those boasting smooth motion clarity, excellent picture quality, and thoughtful design for an immersive experience. Ideally, they would support Variable Refresh Rates (VRR) compatible with both AMD FreeSync and NVIDIA G-Sync technologies. However, to fully enjoy these displays, ensure that your gaming laptop or desktop is equipped with the appropriate graphics processor
