Acer has unveiled some fresh Predator Helios Neo AI gaming laptops equipped with NVIDIA’s latest mobile GPUs, the RTX 5070 and RTX 507 Ti. If stock of standalone cards remains scarce a few months down the line, these laptops might be an excellent alternative to get your hands on NVIDIA’s new “Blackwell” hardware, priced from $1,899.99.
During the Intel Extreme Masters Katowice Counter-Strike 2 tournament held in Poland, Intel’s newest Arrow Lake-HX mobile CPUs are being showcased alongside cutting-edge NVIDIA hardware. This powerful duo is expected to offer exceptional performance in gaming and artificial intelligence applications.
Without a doubt, the smaller and more compact Predator Helios Neo 16 AI model comes with an affordable price tag. It is anticipated to retail for approximately $1,900 upon its release in North American markets in April. On the other hand, consumers in EMEA regions will have to wait until May to get their hands on it, with a starting price of €1,699.
The Predator Helios Neo 18 AI, with its larger size, is projected to retail around $2,200 and debut in North America this May. However, consumers in EMEA regions will have to hold off until June, as the price for them will be €1,799, a difference of one month.
Here’s a look at the raw specs going into these laptops.
Though NVIDIA’s RTX 5000 GPUs grab much attention, Acer doesn’t hesitate to provide high-quality screens for their latest gaming laptops, featuring NVIDIA G-Sync, Advanced Optimus, and a Multi-Output Display (MUX) switch.
The Helios Neo 16 AI boasts a versatile 16-inch display, offered in four distinct setup options. The premium version features an OLED screen, offers QHD+ resolution, boasts a rapid 240Hz refresh rate, swift 1ms response time, covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color spectrum, and delivers 400 nits of brightness.
On the opposite end lies a Full High-Definition Plus (FHD+) screen boasting a rapid refresh rate of 180Hz, swift response time in just 3 milliseconds, complete coverage of the sRGB color spectrum, and a brightness level of 400 nits. This display is expected to come standard with the initial model priced at $1,900. Keep in mind that you’ll need to budget for higher costs as you move up to more advanced models.
On the Helios Neo 18 AI, you’ll find four alternative 18-inch display options, most of which share similar variable specifications. The premium choice boasts a mini-LED technology and QHD+ resolution, with a swift refresh rate of 250Hz. The least expensive option, on the other hand, offers an FHD+ resolution and a refresh rate of 165Hz.

On January 30th, NVIDIA unveiled its RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 desktop graphics processors. However, the release was marked by a severe scarcity of stock, with many prominent retailers possessing just a handful – four or five units – of these premium GPUs. Consequently, these new desktop cards were quickly snapped up.
Unfortunately, it seems there might be a long wait of several months for any significant selection of these new GPUs to hit the market. And even if you manage to grab one at its suggested retail price, resellers are marking them up by thousands of dollars. I can’t help but worry that this trend could repeat itself with the upcoming RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti desktop GPUs launching on February 20. Frankly, I wouldn’t be surprised if they follow suit.
Although the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 may not have been extraordinarily impressive in terms of raw computing power, their ability to utilize DLSS 4 upscaling technology and an increased emphasis on Tensor core performance for artificial intelligence applications make them quite appealing. These graphics cards are particularly attractive to individuals who haven’t yet upgraded to the RTX 40-series GPU.
Ben Wilson, Senior Editor at Windows Central, who evaluated both of the premium NVIDIA RTX 5000 GPUs, additionally assessed DLSS 4’s performance in Cyberpunk 2077. Using the RTX 5080, he observed a performance increase of approximately 2.44 times with the new Multi Frame Generation feature of DLSS 4. To put it simply, this is truly remarkable. Regardless of whether the game is being displayed using synthetic frames, the significant improvement in performance cannot be overlooked.
Although laptops utilize scaled-down versions of desktop GPUs to manage heat more effectively, these latest RTX 5000 laptops such as the Predator Helios Neo 16/18 AI still offer the benefits of DLSS 4 in a compact setup.

As a diligent analyst, I’ve been keeping a close eye on the pricing of gaming laptops equipped with NVIDIA’s latest mid-range RTX 5000 GPUs. Thankfully, some of the uncertainty has been alleviated.
Recently, listings for some fresh ASUS laptops equipped with the RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti have surfaced on Best Buy and the official ASUS site. The ROG Strix G16, priced at approximately $1,900, is one of them, featuring an RTX 5070 Ti. However, Acer’s RTX 5070 Predator Helios Neo 16 AI seems to be a bit more expensive, starting around the same price point of $1,900 as well.
The cost goes beyond just the GPU; it’s actually more budget-friendly than I anticipated. However, there are likely cheaper and pricier alternatives coming up soon. But for those gaming enthusiasts who favor mobility, the $2,000 range for these high-end laptops could be quite attractive.
