As a seasoned tech researcher with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must admit that the new Acer Swift Go 14 AI laptop has caught my attention. Having had the chance to test and review countless devices, I can confidently say that this sleek, lightweight powerhouse is a promising addition to the market.

2024’s IFA kicks off in Berlin on September 6, however, Acer has already revealed its upcoming product lineup. This includes a variety of new Nitro V and Predator Orion gaming PCs, monitors, and laptops. Among these releases, Acer has introduced the Swift Go 14 AI (SFG14-01), which is powered by Qualcomm’s newly developed 8-core Snapdragon X Plus System-on-Chip (SoC)

This advanced AI PC is also known as the Copilot Plus model due to its powerful Neural Processing Unit (NPU) built into the System on Chip (SoC), delivering an impressive 45 TOPS for local artificial intelligence processing speed. It showcases a high-quality, 14.5-inch QHD+ screen with a swift 120Hz refresh rate and full sRGB color coverage

When Acer’s upcoming laptop is set to debut in September for approximately $1,000, it will not fall under the category of low-cost laptops that Cristiano Amon, Qualcomm CEO, predicts will hit the market by 2025. However, it’s exciting to notice that Acer has adopted the new Snapdragon X chip at a competitive price point

In a three-part strategy for Acer’s Copilot+ initiative, the Swift Go 14 AI with Snapdragon X Plus is included. Additionally, Acer unveiled the AMD-powered Swift 14 AI (SF14-61/T), Intel-powered Swift 14/16 AI laptops, and the TravelMate P6 14 AI. All these devices are anticipated to receive Copilot+ access in November

Let’s dive deep into the Acer Swift Go 14 AI powered by Snapdragon X Plus SoC. Don’t miss my upcoming reviews on other Copilot+ PCs with AMD and Intel hardware, launching this year from Acer

At this year’s IFA 2024, one of the standout announcements is the release of Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon X Plus SoC, an eight-core chip. This new chip offers a more budget-friendly option compared to its existing counterparts and seems perfectly suited for the mobile-focused Swift Go 14 AI (SFG14-01) devices

This chip can be paired with up to 32GB of LPDDR5x dual-channel RAM and up to a 1TB M.2 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD, ensuring it won’t lack in support. Additionally, the X Plus boasts a substantial 75Wh battery, implying it will showcase its efficiency optimally. Acer estimates around 28 hours of video playback, which translates to more than enough for an entire workday and additional hours dedicated to actual work tasks

Despite the slim build — which measures just 0.39 inches at its thinnest point — the laptop offers dual USB4, dual USB-A 3.2, and a 3.5mm audio jack. Wireless connectivity is handled by modern Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4.

Two 14.5-inch displays are listed as options, starting with a more affordable 1920×1200 (FHD+) IPS screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and 100% sRGB color. You’ll also be able to step up to a 2560×1600 (QHD+) display with 350 nits brightness, 120Hz refresh rate, and 100% sRGB color. At this size, you’ll get plenty of clarity even at FHD+, but it’s nice to see the upgrade option available for those with deeper pockets.

Among the notable aspects that catch my eye are a webcam offering 1440p resolution and equipped with a privacy cover, as well as a fingerprint sensor conveniently placed within the power button. With its initial price tag of $999.99 slated for release in September, Copilot+ is likely to entice numerous users eager to give it a try

How the 8-core X Plus fits into Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X lineup

In May 2024, the initial rollout of high-performing, energy-efficient PCs powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X SoCs hit the market, leaving an impression. However, Qualcomm didn’t stop there; they introduced more options. The original Snapdragon X lineup, unveiled with four choices, consisted of three Snapdragon X Elite and one Snapdragon X Plus model

It’s no wonder that Qualcomm has broadened its range of chips, offering a more potent X Elite (X1E-00-IDE) chip with 12 cores and a more budget-friendly X Plus (X1P-42) chip with 8 cores. The newly announced X Plus chip, unveiled today at IFA 2024, is expected to be a hit among cost-effective laptops such as the Swift Go 14 AI

Although it has fewer cores than its counterparts, the X Plus (X1P-42) showcases a 3.4GHz clock speed and an identical Hexagon NPU with up to 45 TOPS of power for local AI enhancement. You may find that the CPU and GPU components don’t measure up to the top-tier Snapdragon X chips, but the NPU should still provide Copilot+ features at a similar level due to the same TOPS count

In this scenario, you’ll find the standard set of Copilot+ functionalities at your disposal, encompassing the often-requested Windows Recall, Real-time Captions, Co-creation, Windows Studio effects, and many others
