As a long-time fan of Shonen Jump and a witness to its ever-evolving roster of captivating series, I must say that the upcoming release of “Madan no Ichi” has me thoroughly excited! The return of the talented artist, Shiro Usazaki, who graced us with the masterpiece that was “Act-Age”, is truly a delight. His unique artistic style and knack for creating intricate storylines are undoubtedly qualities that will breathe life into this new fantasy series.
Shonen Jump, known for its successful series, is preparing to introduce new stories as some popular ones are wrapping up. Recently, My Hero Academia concluded, and this month marks the end of Jujutsu Kaisen. In light of these closures, Shonen Jump is getting ready to debut fresh titles this fall, with one of the upcoming projects being a collaboration with the talented artist from Act-Age.
Indeed, you’ve understood correctly! Shiro Usazaki is preparing for a return to the spotlight. This acclaimed artist of “Act-Age” will collaborate on the upcoming manga “Madan no Ichi.” Notably, the writing for this new work is being handled by Osamu Nishi, who’s also behind the popular series “Welcome to Demon School Iruma-kun.”
Commencing in Weekly Shonen Jump issue 41/2024, scheduled for September 9th, is the new fantasy manga titled “Madan no Ichi,” created by renowned artists Shiro Usazaki of Act-Age and Nishi Osamu, the genius behind “Mairimashita Iruma-kun.” This intriguing tale unfolds in a magical realm where witches hunt for enchantments. To date, not much information has been revealed about the upcoming manga, but some details have been disclosed. This intriguing new manga is scheduled to debut on September 9 and will enchant readers as it unfolds into a captivating fantasy series. Titled “Madan no Ichi,” the story takes place in a mystical realm where a boy, reared in the mountains, evades witch hunts for magic. With Usazaki at the helm, you can anticipate an enchanting reading experience.
It’s no surprise that followers of Usazaki are delighted to learn they’re back in Shonen Jump. While their work on Act-Age was undeniably remarkable, unfortunately, the series didn’t sustain its initial success for Usazaki. Due to its writer’s arrest in 2020, Act-Age has largely been forgotten by fans.
The Downfall of Act-Age
If you’re not familiar with the controversy surrounding “Act-Age”, it was initially well-received when it debuted in January 2018 due to its high school drama narrative penned by writer Tatsuya Matsuki. However, acclaim turned sour several years later when Matsuki was apprehended by police under accusations of inappropriately touching two middle school students. Shonen Jump promptly addressed the issue and eventually ceased publication of Act-Age following the allegations. In 2020, Matsuki was found guilty of committing indecent acts and sentenced accordingly. As a result, Act-Age is no longer accessible for reading anywhere, and Usazaki has been discreetly handling the situation while dealing with their colleague’s criminal actions.
As a passionate gamer, I can’t wait to see the artist get back to work on “Midan no Ichi.” This could potentially be the next big thing for “Shonen Jump,” and with the amazing talent Usazaki has shown, there’s a good chance it will climb to the top of their lineup.
