Currently a well-respected actor known for numerous successful television series and movies, Stephen Graham recently shared the heartfelt instance when he told his dad that he would soon be collaborating with one of his biggest role models.
Currently, Graham is being appropriately recognized for his contributions to Netflix’s Adolescence series. In a chat with Capital Breakfast, he disclosed an intriguing fact – his childhood room was adorned with movie mementos, among which was a unique Taxi Driver film poster, a keepsake gifted by his father.
As a film aficionado, I’d often find myself reminiscing about the day my father led me to our neighborhood video store. On that particular visit, we selected three masterpieces – “Taxi Driver,” “The Deer Hunter,” and “The Godfather” – which left an indelible mark on my cinematic journey.
Without a doubt, Graham is an ardent admirer of Robert De Niro. As he reminisced, tears welled up in his eyes when he recalled sharing the exciting news with his father about their collaboration on Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman.
He asked, “Don’t you wonder what that phone conversation was about? It sparks my curiosity to find out. I responded, ‘Yes dad, and you won’t believe who I’ll be collaborating with.’ His reaction was something like, ‘Wow! That’s fantastic, son!’
He added: “My father, amazingly, had always been there for me, along with my mother. They stood by me in every challenge I faced, if you get the drift? The hardships and everything – let me adjust my glasses for a moment – that phone call was indescribable.
Despite acknowledging their intention not to bring Graham to tears, they instead commended his father for being instrumental in his success. In simpler words, Graham expressed gratitude by saying, “It seems like just one person can make all the difference, doesn’t it? They can help you reach your goal or believe in the dream that you have.
Lately, Graham has been seen alongside De Niro on The One Show. During this appearance, he shared a tale about his father and acknowledged that De Niro had a profound impact on him during his childhood years.
He told him: “I don’t think I ever told you that. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
At present, Graham is prominently featured in the popular Netflix show titled “Adolescence.” In this series, he plays the role of Eddie, a plumber who grapples with the harsh truth when his son stands accused of murdering a female classmate.
