A live adaptation of the popular cult vampire book “Let the Right One In” is set to hit stages across the UK this fall, leaving us shivering with anticipation.
The play underwent an adaptation penned by Jack Thorne, known for writing Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, BBC series His Dark Materials, as well as the popular Netflix show titled Adolescence.
The narrative is derived from the popular Swedish book and acclaimed movie of the same title by John Ajvide Lindqvist. It revolves around Oskar, a solitary and tormented schoolchild who finds himself spending most of his time at home alone, until a peculiar child named Eli settles in the house next door.
In brief: “Eli stands out as a peculiar character unlike any other encountered by Oskar. Yet, an unusual friendship forms between them that’s both profound and bizarre. However, as grisly murders begin appearing in the town, Oskar gradually reveals Eli’s hidden truth, placing immense stress on their mysterious connection.
In collaboration with director Bryony Shanahan, Thorne aims to revive this story for the UK audience following its premiere at Manchester’s Royal Exchange Theatre in 2022. During that run, it was a resounding success, selling out entirely and garnering outstanding critiques.
Thorne expressed: “It was truly an honor to adapt Let The Right One In, a story that subtly explores themes of genre, gender, and love in unique ways. I can’t wait for more people to witness Bryony Shanahan’s powerful, risky staging of it.
From November to December 2025, the show is scheduled to run in Northampton, Bromley, Bristol, and Salford. Following this, it will proceed to Fareham, Cardiff, Southend, Eastbourne, Glasgow, Birmingham, and Liverpool in 2026.
Casting and further dates are due to be announced soon, alongside ticketing information.
