Adrien Brody sets new record with The Brutalist Oscar win

2025’s grandest Hollywood event, the Oscars, has already occurred, marking the conclusion of this year’s honors.

As a movie enthusiast, I couldn’t help but feel the tension as the final moments of the awards race approached. But in the end, it was Anora that stole the show, walking away with an impressive five trophies. Among these were the prestigious awards for Best Picture and Best Actress, which went to Mikey Madison, and the honor of Best Director, given to Sean Baker. It was a truly memorable night!

Interestingly, it was the Best Actor category that saw a shift to another production, with Adrien Brody taking the award for his portrayal of László Tóth in The Brutalist. This outcome had been widely anticipated during the awards season.

As it happens, Brody’s victory not only made history but also set a new standard at the Academy. He is now the unique actor who has won both of his initial two nominations for Best Actor in a Leading Role.

Additionally, this victory keeps Brody’s name in the record books as the youngest actor ever to receive an award for Actor in a Leading Role.

If 29-year-old Timothée Chalamet had won this year instead, he would have set a new record for being the youngest Oscar winner, as he would have been only a few months younger than Adrien Brody, who won in 2002 for The Pianist at the age of 29.

In his speech this year, Brody gratefully acknowledged: “Thank you, God. Thank you for the wonderful life I’ve been given. Let me humbly express my gratitude for the overwhelming affection I’ve received from everyone across the globe, as well as every person who has shown me kindness and admiration.

Feeling incredibly blessed, I must admit that acting can be quite delicate. From the outside, it may appear glamorous, and there are times when it truly is, but what I’ve learned most from this experience is gaining a fresh perspective. Being given the opportunity to return here has been invaluable.

Regardless of your professional stage or achievements, they can vanish at any moment. What truly sets tonight apart, in my opinion, is the consciousness of this possibility and the appreciation I hold for being able to continue doing work that I cherish.

This year’s Oscar winners also encompass Zoe Saldaña, recognized as best supporting actress for her portrayal in Emilia Pérez, and Kieran Culkin, honored with the best supporting actor accolade for his performance in A Real Pain.
