Adult Swim Cancels Classic Toonami Revival

As an observer who has been following the evolution of Toonami for over two decades now, it’s always a bittersweet moment when we hear about changes in the lineup. On one hand, it’s exciting to see new ventures and fresh content; on the other, there’s a certain nostalgic charm in revisiting old favorites.

Since 1997, I’ve been a witness to the evolution of Toonami on Cartoon Network – a journey marked by shifts in programming schedules, hosts, and even periods of absence from the airwaves. It was temporarily put to rest by Cartoon Network in 2008, but it found renewed vigor in 2012 on Adult Swim. However, it appears that one of its recent ventures, Toonami Rewind, might be nearing its end, as the countdown to its conclusion seems to have begun.

Toonami Rewind, a new program, launched on May 31st this year. Instead of airing shows late at night and focusing mainly on newer anime series such as Attack on Titan, My Hero Academia, Mashle: Magic & Muscles, it showcased older ones. The initial broadcast included Dragon Ball Z Kai, Sailor Moon, and Naruto. However, despite a strong public interest in Toonami moving towards the past, recent updates from the platform suggest that this change might not be permanent. Although this news may not be favorable, there could still be some positive outcomes hidden within it.

Toonami Ends Rewind

Although Toonami Rewind may cease operation by the end of the year, don’t worry because it won’t affect the continued presence of Toonami itself. As part of Adult Swim on Saturdays, Toonami programming block seems to be sticking around and not disappearing like its spin-off, Toonami Rewind. In a recent update, Toonami expressed their gratitude to viewers of Toonami Rewind, letting them know that the show will be ending by the end of the year, but they emphasized that Saturday night Toonami isn’t going anywhere, encouraging everyone to “Stay Gold.

Adult Swim Marches Forward

In spite of some challenges along the way, Toonami and Adult Swim have thrived in recent years. For instance, “Rick and Morty” on Adult Swim has remained an unstoppable success, promising additional seasons to chronicle the escapades of the Smith Family. Similarly, Toonami hasn’t shied away from innovation, as evidenced by the release of “Invincible Fight Girl,” demonstrating their readiness to tackle bold new ventures and captivate fresh audiences.

Apart from Toonami, Adult Swim is also gearing up to debut a fresh comedy series titled “Common Side Effects“. This series stems from the creative minds behind “King of The Hill” and will air in February, indicating that Adult Swim isn’t backing down on exploring new realms. Here’s hoping Toonami can follow suit with more exciting announcements.
