AEW Announces Bryan Danielson Career Retrospective for Dynamite

As a long-time wrestling enthusiast with over two decades of fandom under my belt, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia and awe as I witness the impending farewell of “The American Dragon” Bryan Danielson. His journey has been nothing short of inspiring, and it’s heartwarming to see him grace the AEW Dynamite stage one last time before his big world title match against Swerve Strickland at All In.

Tonight on AEW Dynamite, a heartfelt career recap of “The American Dragon” Bryan Danielson will be shown before his highly anticipated world title match at AEW All In against Swerve Strickland. This bout promises to be a significant milestone for the esteemed wrestler who is preparing for the winding down of his active wrestling career, making it a title versus career encounter. Unfortunately, he missed last year’s event at Wembley Stadium due to injury, but this time around, the moment will hold extra significance for him. Despite expressing his intentions to retire to spend more time with his family, Bryan Danielson plans to continue his association with AEW in some capacity moving forward.

Tony Khan, President of AEW, announced on his platform (previously known as Twitter), that the upcoming video includes Green Day’s “Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)” from their 1997 album, Nimrod. This decision seems to align with Danielson’s earlier statement about playing this song at his funeral. In an interview with Kerrang, Danielson expressed a soft spot for “Time Of Your Life,” but added that if he had more time to ponder, he might opt for a Kimya Dawson or Frank Turner tune. However, given the circumstances, he feels compelled to clarify his choice now, just in case anything unexpected happens. His wife might wonder why Green Day is being played at Bryan’s funeral, but he assures us it’s because he mentioned it in an interview! (laughs)

Danielson has not specified an exact date for his retirement from full-time competitions, but he hinted at needing a major surgery by the end of this year. Therefore, fans should cherish the remaining time they have with him. If Danielson manages to win the championship from Swerve, AEW will be traveling to Washington state in just a few months, which is well after his contract with AEW expires. As it’s his home state, it would make sense for him to relinquish the championship there. The event, AEW WrestleDream, is scheduled for October, and last year’s pay-per-view marked the debut of Adam Copeland (former WWE Hall of Famer Edge).
