As a lifelong wrestling fan who’s seen more than a few acts come and go, I can confidently say that the arrival of The Hurt Syndicate in AEW is a game-changer! With their combined WWE championship pedigree and MVP’s knack for delivering cryptic messages, this trio is bound to shake things up in All Elite Wrestling.
At Arthur Ashe Stadium for the AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam event, Prince Nana showed up with news about Swerve Strickland, the previous AEW World Champion. After his intense battle against “Hangman” Adam Page at AEW All Out, Strickland has been out of sight, recovering from his wounds. However, it seems like his upcoming opponent may have just been hinted at during Grand Slam. During Nana’s speech, MVP interjected with a mysterious message that suggests The Hurt Syndicate (previously known as WWE’s Hurt Business) could be joining AEW soon. This group includes Shelton Benjamin, Bobby Lashley, and MVP himself.
As soon as we began learning about Swerve Strickland, an unexpected guest and proposal came from MVP!

The Hurt Business Is AEW Bound
The entire team from WWE was released within the last year, with Benjamin being the first to leave in autumn, followed by MVP and Lashley whose contracts concluded recently. Not long after hinting at their group’s reform, a trademark was filed. Since then, MVP has been seen frequently on the independent wrestling circuit. At one point, there were plans to include Benjamin, but it didn’t materialize. As for Lashley, he’s remained tight-lipped about his wrestling future, but he’s made it known that there’s still work to be done. A recent report suggests the trio have been in discussions with AEW, and now appears to be an ideal moment for their stable to make its debut.
Following the finalization of a significant new TV agreement, the company will now have the opportunity to broaden its reach into markets where it had previously needed to exercise caution. Previous ventures such as the Blackpool Combat Club and The Conglomeration have proven successful for them, and it’s challenging to dispute the allure of three former WWE champions. These veterans could potentially add depth to the tag team division, and it wouldn’t be far-fetched to envision Benjamin and Lashley becoming major players in the main event scene.
In a crucial juncture, it was potentially harmful for AEW not to have this trio. However, with numerous major talents either injured, away, or nearing retirement, this group provides the much-needed steadiness that AEW requires as it enters a fresh phase.
