CM Punk makes a comeback in WWE. The Second City Saint reappeared at his long-standing employer, WWE, in November 2023, stepping into the spotlight during WWE Survivor Series in front of his adoring hometown crowd sporting a short hairstyle, neatly groomed beard, and a white t-shirt. Although the changes were subtle, they carried a genuine impact, as they presented a refreshed Punk who bore little resemblance to how he looked during his time with AEW only three months earlier. In his final days at AEW, Punk sported a close-cropped hairstyle and facial hair that varied from stubble to a goatee. Consistent with his subsequent speeches and storylines within WWE, Punk chose to leave behind his AEW past, refraining from referencing it visually or verbally on WWE platforms.
AEW Star Lent CM Punk His Gear For WWE Return Matches
Though CM Punk and AEW are currently distinct entities today, an unexpected twist emerged when Punk incorporated elements of his previous workplace into his comeback WWE matches in December 2023.
In conversation with Gabby AF, AEW Vice President of Show and Creative Coordination QT Marshall disclosed that he had given his old friend Cody Rhodes a simple pair of black wrestling shorts to pass onto Punk for his comeback match in the WWE ring during their holiday tour last year.
Marshall shared that he received a text from Cody asking if he had a pair of black shorts. Marshall confirmed he did and asked why. Cody explained that there was an issue with Punk’s gear for his upcoming return at Madison Square Garden and the Kia Forum, marking his first match back with WWE. Marshall then sent a box containing his own underwear to Cody, assuming he used them on TV. However, it seems both Cody and Punk wore the same pair of black shorts, as photos showed Punk wearing them. Since then, Marshall has not received them back and is unsure if Punk is even aware or if he has reached out.
In 2024, I’ve been rocking my iconic Chicago stars trunks and kickpads with a splash of color here and there, gracing the ring for four televised bouts.
In a playful manner, Marshall said, “Think about all those fans who bought tickets to the Garden. They were already furious that he was just wearing black swimming trunks,” he joked. “I still recall reading about it because indeed they were saying, ‘He didn’t return in his gear.’ It’s as if, you haven’t heard the true tale, let alone the real truth behind it.
