AEW Star Expected to End 18-Month Absence Soon

As a gamer who has been following All Elite Wrestling (AEW) for quite some time now, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation upon hearing the news that Tay Melo might be making her comeback soon. Four years with AEW and she’s become more than just a high-profile member; she’s one of the faces I look forward to seeing in the ring. Her journey, from competing for gold to linking up with her real-life husband Sammy Guevara, has been quite the rollercoaster ride.

For approximately 18 months now, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) has been without a key figure in its women’s division: Tay Melo. Her last match for AEW was in January 2023, where she teamed up with her long-term tag partner Anna Jay in a violent street fight against Ruby Soho and Willow Nightingale. In August 2023, she made a brief appearance on AEW Dynamite during the Jericho Appreciation Society’s split. Her absence from wrestling was due to her taking maternity leave, as she and her husband, fellow AEW star Sammy Guevara, announced they were expecting a child at AEW Double or Nothing 2023. Tay welcomed their daughter into the world last November.

Tay Melo Expected to Make AEW Return Soon

It won’t be much longer until Tay Melo is back in an AEW ring.

Over the weekend at the AEW tapings in Arlington, Texas, there was buzz backstage about Taz potentially making his return. Insiders are saying that it might happen as early as this Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite – fingers crossed!

For the past four years, Tay has been a professional wrestler for AEW. She joined the team officially in September 2020 and soon rose to prominence within the women’s division, vying for titles such as the NWA World Women’s Championship and the AEW Women’s World Championship. At AEW Full Gear 2021, she challenged for the latter title. Her most recent match was against Jade Cargill at AEW Revolution 2022. More recently, Tay has been collaborating with the Jericho Appreciation Society, forming an alliance with her real-life husband, Sammy Guevara.

Guevara recently made his return to the ring, appearing on the August 1st edition of Ring of Honor TV. The following week, Guevara made his ROH in-ring debut, tagging with Dustin Rhodes to take down The Dark Order’s Alex Reynolds and John Silver. The former AEW TNT Champion has not been seen on AEW programming since February, as he was serving a suspension for not following concussion protocol during a match against Jeff Hardy on AEW Rampage.

With Tay’s potential comeback happening just before AEW ALL IN: London, it sparks speculation about her role within AEW’s roster, as both the AEW Women’s Championship and the AEW TBS Championship matches for the upcoming stadium event have already been decided.

Stay tuned to ComicBook for updates on Tay Melo’s return to AEW.
