AEW’s Adam Copeland Calls Potential Match With Will Ospreay “Generational” (Exclusive)

AEW's Adam Copeland Calls Potential Match With Will Ospreay "Generational" (Exclusive)

As a long-time wrestling enthusiast, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement when contemplating potential matches within All Elite Wrestling (AEW). The arrival of new talent has always been a breath of fresh air, and the emergence of Will Ospreay is no exception. His rapid ascent through the ranks in AEW has left quite an impression, and his admiration for veterans like Adam Copeland is palpable.

Despite being on the sidelines due to an injury he sustained in May, Adam Copeland of AEW is focusing on what lies ahead. Since joining AEW almost a year ago, Copeland has expressed his inspiration by many of the rising talents in the ring, and several of these individuals are currently part of AEW. Unfortunately, unexpected events have prevented him from wrestling them so far, but that’s not stopping him from looking forward to future opportunities.

Recently signed to AEW last November, the current International Champion Will Ospreay made his debut in March and swiftly climbed up the ranks, establishing himself as a top performer within the company. During Copeland’s TNT Championship reign, both men acknowledged each other in the ring, albeit without any physical interaction. The chemistry between them was palpable to the audience. In various interviews, Ospreay has expressed his eagerness to square off against Copeland, commending his versatility in adapting to AEW’s unique style.

In a recent interview with ComicBook, Copeland shared his intrigue about a possible encounter between him and Ospreay. He doesn’t particularly fancy the term “dream match”, but instead, considers such an event as one that transcends generations.

“Indeed, it’s a given,” Copeland replied when asked about his enthusiasm for facing off against Ospreay. “You see, even though he wasn’t part of AEW at the moment, wrestlers like him made the choice quite straightforward. Honestly, I can hardly contain my excitement over opportunities like this. First-time matches are always intriguing – the mystery of whether there will be a connection or not is truly captivating. Given our unique mindsets and approaches, that match would be incredibly enjoyable for me. And on a personal level, Ospreay is a fantastic individual with an immense love for wrestling. When two passionate individuals meet, it creates an exciting atmosphere – it’s like we’re both bringing our passion to the table, ready to create some magic.”

But that one is definitely a generational thing that I think could be really interesting. For me, it’s also a great test. Like I’m 50 years old, I’m winding this down. I gotta still be able to get in there with those guys and produce to know how long to stick around for. You don’t ever wanna be a detriment. I wanted to go to AEW to help; I wanted to try and help backstage. I wanted to try and help with creative. I wanted to try and help with training, as a sounding board, whatever it is. Just whatever hat you need me to wear, I’ll throw it on. And if that means I get to get in there with a guy like Ospreay? Hell yeah.

Looking over this lineup, it’s as if I’m seeing names I’ve never interacted with before: Ospreay, Omega, Moxley, Claudio, PAC, the Young Bucks, FTR, Samoa Joe, Strickland, and Hangman. Never had a match or shared a story with any of them in the last two years. Wow, that’s an incredible amount of new possibilities! Incredibly exciting!
