AEW’s Anna Jay On Stardom Debut, Wrestling in Japan Is a “Dream”

As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the world of wrestling video games, I can confidently say that watching real-life wrestlers like Anna Jay step into the ring is nothing short of exhilarating. Having followed her journey from Dark Order to the Jericho Appreciation Society, it’s fascinating to see her embark on this new adventure with STARDOM.

Due to a collaborative partnership between AEW and Japanese wrestling promotion STARDOM, some of Japan’s top female wrestlers have made appearances in AEW. Now, one of AEW’s own talents, Anna Jay (previously with Dark Order and the Jericho Appreciation Society), is embarking on her first career excursion. The 5STAR Grand Prix tournament is scheduled from August 10th to August 31st, divided into two blocks, Red and Blue. Jay finds herself in the Blue Stars A Block alongside Saori Anou, Syuri, Starlight Kid, Xena, Koguma, and Miyu Amasaki for this competition.

Due to the round robin format of the tournament, Jay will face off against every competitor in her group to earn points. The wrestler with the highest points at the end wins their block and moves forward. For some time now, AEW has been hinting at Jay’s potential trip to Japan. Previously, when AZM and Saya Kamitani were with AEW, they subtly suggested recruiting the 26-year-old.

Anna Jay Says Wrestling in STARDOM Is an Honor

“Hey everyone, this is Anna Jay speaking! I can hardly contain my excitement and gratitude at the prospect of participating in this year’s 5STAR Grand Prix tournament. Frankly, I never dreamed I’d be given this chance, but here we are, and it’s happening next week!

To realize my dream of wrestling in Japan is an amazing opportunity that I am eagerly anticipating. Not only can’t I wait to wrestle there, but I’m also excited about experiencing other aspects of Japanese culture. One thing I’m particularly looking forward to is trying coffee in Japan, as I drink it every morning and consider it a necessity. Additionally, I’ve been curious to try Fruit Sandos – a sandwich-like treat filled with fruit and whipped cream that I’ve seen online for years. It sounds delicious, and I can hardly wait to finally taste one!

“In addition to perfecting her skills, Jay shared that she aims to reach the finals and compete against AZM. She expressed, ‘Another thing I’m striving for is making it to the finals. Whether or not this is a lofty ambition or not, I don’t mind. Everyone needs goals and aspirations. So that’s my aim – to face AZM.’ If given the chance, she added, ‘Facing AZM would be a dream come true. AZM is someone I know, someone who is my friend. I wouldn’t want our encounter to be hostile. It would be out of respect. She is someone I would relish the opportunity to share the ring with, someone I would cherish the chance to collaborate with. That’s the goal I have set for myself.'”

Jay has consistently been well-liked in AEW, but hasn’t had much time to fully develop her character. Similar wrestlers, like Mariah May, have greatly improved their abilities by spending time in Japan and returning as seasoned fighters. It seems that Jay could similarly excel in this environment and break free from the current limitations she faces. This experience wouldn’t only be advantageous for Jay, but also push her beyond her comfort zone. Notably, STARDOM is now a subsidiary of New Japan, so it’s possible that more AEW personalities may appear there in the future.
