AEW's Young Bucks Explain What Inspires Their Ring Gear

As a long-time wrestling fan and avid gamer, I’ve been following the Young Bucks of AEW with great interest for quite some time now. Their unique in-ring style and flamboyant personas have always stood out to me, but it was their recent focus on high-end sneakers that truly piqued my fascination.

The Young Bucks, one of AEW’s prominent tag teams, have sparked significant controversy over the past few years. Their transformation into heels started before the pandemic with their extravagant sneaker choices in the ring. This decision infuriated the sneaker community, but it paved the way for the brothers to further develop their characters. They’ve since strived to outdo themselves and generate buzz by incorporating hardcore elements into their matches. Their latest stunt involved superkicking the former AEW World Champion, Jon Moxley, and detonating an explosive at the same time, resulting in a stunning spectacle in the ring.

During their tag team tenure, they’ve showcased intriguing ring attire selections. In Japan, they donned gear with their own faces prominently displayed. Famous for their neon tassel outfits, they now sport iconic robes. Lately, they’ve integrated their Denise Cutler-designed sneakers into their gear.

How the Young Bucks Craft Their Ring Gear

In the past four or five years, Matthew has been prioritizing which sneaker he wants and then tailoring his gear around it, as opposed to having unconventional ideas and finding a shoe that fits, like in the past when he would sport tassels, streamers, and neon colors. Now, as avid sneaker enthusiasts, Matthew’s preference influences his purchases, and he requests customizations based on his chosen sneaker.

More recently, she excelled in creating our latest Reebok pump design. She didn’t only produce the equipment but also engineered a large-scale prototype adorned with Reebok logos, which we needed to present for approval and received positive feedback on. Currently, the sneaker takes center stage in our gear collection, serving as our primary focus and most significant component.

The Young Bucks, current AEW World Tag Team Champions, are gearing up for this year’s “Blood & Guts” event, marking their second participation after last year’s Golden Elite reunion with Kota Ibushi. However, things have changed since then. New members of The Elite, Jack Perry and Kazuchika Okada, will join them in the ring, along with “Hangman” Adam Page. They face off against Team AEW, consisting of AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland, The Acclaimed, Darby Allin, and Mark Briscoe. Witness this intense encounter unfold on AEW Dynamite this Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET on TBS.
