As a seasoned cinephile who has weathered countless FIFA vs PES debates over the years, I must say this unexpected partnership between FIFA and Konami’s eFootball is nothing short of extraordinary. It’s like watching Rocky and Apollo Creed teaming up for a boxing match – unthinkable yet intriguingly captivating!
For quite some time, debates between FIFA and PES have been a common topic on playgrounds and office conversations. Now, FIFA has announced they will be collaborating with Konami’s eFootball – it’s important to note that this doesn’t mean Konami is creating the new FIFA game; rather, this partnership is focused on esports.
Previously, EA had the rights to produce FIFA video games, but they lost that license in 2022. Consequently, EA Sports FC 24 was introduced towards the end of 2023 without the FIFA branding attached.
After that point, there’s been plenty of chatter suggesting that the FIFA series could return with a fresh developer or publisher. However, as of now, a new FIFA game has not appeared on the scene.
Surprisingly, the renowned PES series by Konami, now known as eFootball, has joined forces with FIFA to host a competitive gaming event.
Back in the day, you might recall the heated debates between FIFA and PES enthusiasts. With every fresh installment of their football series hitting the market, fans passionately disagreed on which title reigned supreme.
It’s funny to see FIFA teaming up with Konami now for eFootball after years of rivalry.
For the unaware, eFootball is a free-to-play esports-focused title.
Initially, both critics and passionate PES followers expressed discontent towards the game’s release. Over time, though, the game has made steady enhancements, eventually gaining recognition within the esports community. Now, it holds a significant place as it is part of the International Esports Federation’s World Championship.
As a movie critic penning my thoughts on the 10th of October, 2024, I’m thrilled to share that Konami Digital Entertainment BV has made an exciting announcement: their acclaimed football simulation game, eFootball, will be the platform for a brand-new esports event – the FIFAe World Cup 2024! The qualifiers, embedded within the game itself, have just commenced today.
Yep, in-game qualifiers for the FIFAe World Cup 2024 are live right now in eFootball.
The competition “is an official esports tournament by FIFA with eFootball… held across two categories: Console (PS4 and PS5) and Mobile”.
18 nations across the globe will have the opportunity to compete in the final stage of the FIFAe World Cup 2024 this year.
Additionally, players with citizenships outside of the 18 specified countries are allowed to join the in-game qualifiers up until Round 3. They will still be eligible for the corresponding in-game prizes.
As a cinephile, let me share that the diverse world of filmmaking I’m passionate about spans across 18 captivating territories: Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, South Korea, India, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, France, Spain, Portugal, Turkey, Netherlands, Poland, England, Morocco, Costa Rica, Brazil, and Argentina. Each nation brings a unique cinematic perspective to the global screen.
During this special occasion, you could receive up to 50 eFootball coins, 5,000 eFootball points, 30,000 experience points, and even three skill enhancement programs as in-game rewards.
The competition schedule is as follows:
- 10th – 20th October will see the three-part in-game qualifiers take place
- 28th October – 3rd November will follow for the various National Nomination Phases in the 18 competing countries
- Lastly, there will be the Final round of FIFAe World Cup 2024, held offline towards the end of 2024
Romy Gai, the FIFA’s Chief Business Officer, expressed enthusiasm in a statement about partnering with Konami: “This union is a fantastic fit as it supports our goal of spreading football worldwide and offering a stage for players to exhibit their talents.
We firmly support a diverse environment where various communities can participate in the FIFAe tournaments.
The top-level manager at Konami, Koji Kobayashi, stated: “We’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks to FIFA for offering us this chance. We’re eagerly anticipating the start of the FIFAe World Cup.
We eagerly anticipate spreading the energy, exhilaration, and happiness of our global players by hosting the FIFAe World Cup.
