Agatha All Along boss promises “vulnerability” – but not necessarily “redemption”

As a long-time fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), I am genuinely intrigued by Agatha All Along. Having followed the journey of Agatha Harkness since her brief but impactful appearances in earlier MCU films, I find myself eagerly anticipating this new Disney Plus series.

Jac Schaeffer, the producer of Agatha All Along on Disney Plus, hasn’t revealed if the show will turn the powerful antagonist of WandaVision into a hero or if she’ll continue to pose a threat in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The narrative resumes some years following Wanda’s enchantment of Westview residents, reminiscent of a sitcom, with Agatha Harkness (portrayed by Kathryn Hahn) still confined to her everyday housewife character.

It isn’t long before she’s woken up to her true identity, however, and sets about reclaiming her power, with some fans speculating that the show could morph her into an antihero in the style of fellow Disney Plus series Loki.

Filmmaker Schaeffer refused to comment on if Agatha will transform into a reformed villain or not, but he did admit that the series will delve deeper into showing a more vulnerable aspect of her character than we’ve witnessed before.

As for myself, it’s a fascinating query, one that captures my attention. With a beloved character in tow, I’m eagerly anticipating the answer: will there be redemption, and if so, where will her journey ultimately lead?

Schaeffer explained: “There’s a lot of vulnerability woven into the storyline. We made sure to balance it carefully, keeping in mind that this is a comedy and an enjoyable experience for our audience. In the early episodes especially, we emphasized the horror, humor, excitement, and adventure elements, but it delves much deeper as the season progresses.

In the upcoming show, Agatha will encounter various trials which lead her to ponder her life choices. Among these trials are an erstwhile friend-turned-adversary, Rio Vidal played by Aubrey Plaza, and a puzzling teenager, Joe Locke, who rapidly becomes her confidant.

In union, they’ll traverse the perilous Witches’ Path, a journey that offers boundless power to the fortunate few who make it to the finish line. Throughout their journey, there will be disclosures and a fair share of dramatic moments.

Schaeffer commented: “In truth, the story that lies beneath is what shaped WandaVision. We delved into the depths – exploring just how deep a human being can be probed. In the case of Agatha, we aimed to penetrate as far as possible.

Starting this coming Thursday, the 19th of September, you can stream “Agatha All Along” on Disney Plus! Fresh episodes will be released every week. Right now, there’s a fantastic limited-time deal: Enjoy three months of Disney Plus for only £1.99 per month!
