Agatha All Along Cast Talks Working with Patti LuPone

As a long-time theater enthusiast and fan of both Marvel and Patti LuPone, I am beyond excited for the upcoming debut of “Agatha All Along” on Disney+! Having followed LuPone’s illustrious career for years, I was initially daunted by the prospect of her joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the cast’s experiences working with her have put my fears to rest.

In approximately two weeks, “Agatha All Along” premieres on Disney+, featuring Kathryn Hahn reprising her role as Agatha Harkness in the spinoff of WandaVision, and introducing another legendary character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Patti LuPone. Renowned for her long career in theater, particularly in musicals where she has garnered three Tony Awards, LuPone is also well-known for her work on television and film. Although collaborating with a musical titan might have been intimidating, the cast of “Agatha All Along” shared that working with LuPone was a wonderful experience, and that she was incredibly supportive.

Ali Ahn shared with ComicBook, saying, “Wow, yes, incredibly daunting. Yet, surprisingly warm and friendly. She was remarkably humble.”

In a similar vein, Sasheer Zamata expressed that LuPone was extremely encouraging and found working alongside her to be an enjoyable experience.

“It was genuinely enjoyable. In fact, our voices harmonized surprisingly well, and it seems as though people might say, ‘they’re definitely not Patti LuPone, but…’ is how Zamata put it.”

Ahn commented, “When Patti LuPone praises your singing voice, it’s quite satisfying, doesn’t it?” With Zamata agreeing, “Indeed, it does!”

“It’s like, ‘I’m done now. I can retire. I’m good.'” Ahn added.

Joe Locke, who plays Teen, said that working with LuPone was a “dream come true”.

I mean, a dream come true. Patti’s someone I’ve loved for my who life,” Locke said.

LuPone Has Previously Praised the Set Design of Agatha All Along

LuPone, who portrays witch Lilia Calderu and is part of Agatha’s coven in the series, has openly admired “Agatha All Along” before, with a special focus on the outstanding set and costume designs featured in the Disney+ show.

According to Hahn, what made this series stand out was the limited use of CGI, which was crucial to both Jac Schaeffer, the writer, and Mary Livanos, our producer. Instead of relying heavily on computer-generated imagery, they opted for practical magic or real-life effects. This aspect was incredibly exciting because it allowed us to demonstrate repeatedly that we could pull off these effects without CGI. The sets were fantastic, creating a rich, immersive experience that felt delightful.

Additionally, she remarked that the quality of the production was so exceptional that it seemed as if it were a high-budget movie rather than just a TV show.

As a gamer putting on my director’s hat for a moment, let me share my thoughts: When I stepped onto the set, it was clear that everyone behind the scenes was at their creative peak. From the intricate set design to the meticulously chosen costumes and lighting, everything about it took our breath away. I remember telling someone about the Witches Road – just seeing it made us tear up. It’s not only visually stunning but also part of a captivating tale. This set-up looks like it could be a blockbuster movie worth $100 million.

Kathryn Hahn Also Praised the Series’ Sets

In the appreciation for the set designs in “Agatha All Along“, LuPone isn’t the only one voicing her accolades. Series producer Mary Livanos shared thoughts about preserving old Hollywood filming styles, while Hahn expressed being spellbound by the craftsmanship.

“I couldn’t believe the scale of this show,” Hahn said.
