As a fan with a soft spot for both Marvel and HBO dramas, I must admit that the upcoming Disney+ series, “Agatha All Along“, has me absolutely thrilled! The trailer hinting at Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) living the life of a main character in a cop show is an intriguing twist on the sitcom tribute we saw in “WandaVision”. And let’s not forget about the clever nod to “Mare of Easttown” with the set photo featuring Agnes of Westview.

Coming soon to Disney+ is the series “Agatha All Along”, and fans are anticipating it will share some captivating links to television, similar to its precursor, “WandaVision”. Unlike “WandaVision” that paid homage to sitcoms over the years, the trailer for “Agatha All Along” suggests Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) is starring as a lead character in a police drama. Interestingly, a set photo shared by Joe Locke previously showed a chair labeled “Agnes of Westview”, which seems to be a nod to the hit series “Mare of Easttown”. However, Marvel also shares a connection with “Mare of Easttown” as we discussed during our interview with “Agatha All Along” creator, Jac Schaeffer

Previously, during the Emmy Awards in 2021, Marvel’s series “WandaVision” faced strong competition but ultimately missed out on some major awards to the show “Mare of Easttown”. In the category for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, Kate Winslet surpassed Elizabeth Olsen, while Julianne Nicholson beat Kathryn Hahn in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category. Interestingly, Evan Peters, who was also part of “WandaVision”, managed to secure the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for his performance in “Mare of Easttown”

Schaeffer playfully joked when asked if “Agatha All Along” was making fun of “Mare of Easttown,” since “WandaVision” lost Emmys to the HBO drama. However, he clarified that they had been on a similar awards journey with that team. He is friendly with the showrunner and creator of “Mare of Easttown,” and the idea for a true crime procedural episode actually came before “Mare of Easttown.”

However, it definitely clarified my concept and gave it a playful edge similar to Agatha’s. It was as if I were saying, ‘Perhaps we’re competing with this idea, so let’s work on something else instead,’ Schaeffer added. “You alone, you’re the only one who recognized that.”

She continued, “I was simply expressing respect, and I must say, Evan Peters is currently starring in ‘Mare of Easttown’. I find him immensely talented. Thus, I appreciate the series, as well as everything in ‘WandaVision’ and ‘Agatha All Alone’, regardless of any illusions or pop culture references we incorporate. It was all done out of affection for these productions.”
