Agatha All Along: How MCU Show Addresses Doctor Strange 2

As a lifelong Marvel fan with over three decades of comic book lore under my belt, I must say that “Agatha All Along” is shaping up to be a delightful addition to the ever-expanding MCU television series roster. Kathryn Hahn’s portrayal of Agatha Harkness continues to captivate and surprise me with each episode, and her chemistry with the rest of the cast is palpable.

In a thrilling start, the double debut of the series “Agatha All Along” unfolded on Wednesday evening, marking the newest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s television realm. Focusing on the ongoing escapades of Agatha Harkness (played by Kathryn Hahn), the show aims to expand upon her initial appearance in the 2021 WandaVision series on Disney+, and forge links with other tales within the saga. The opening episodes hint at furthering significant storylines from the upcoming movie, “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness“, due out in 2022. Proceed with caution! Spoilers for the first two episodes of Agatha All Along follow! Only read if you wish to know more!

In the premiere of “Agatha All Along“, we find ourselves immersed in a tribute to contemporary television, where Agatha and the townsfolk of Westview appear trapped within a drama reminiscent of “Mare of Easttown“. Under her disguise as “Agnes”, determined detective Agatha delves into the enigma surrounding the death of an unidentified woman, initially thought to have been squashed. As Agnes becomes consumed by this case and its victim, she also becomes captivated by a peculiar book borrowed from the Westview library, whose full title decodes to “Darkhold”. Agnes’ colleague Rio Vidal (Aubrey Plaza) eventually persuades her to acknowledge the truth: the unidentified woman was actually Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen). Once this revelation sinks in, Agatha comprehends that it was Wanda who had cast the spell on her for several years. The liberated citizens of Westview, now released from the hex following the climax of “WandaVision“, were merely indulging Agatha’s “Mare of Easttown“-inspired hallucination.

In essence, what we’re dealing with here extends beyond just the continuation of the storyline from “WandaVision.” It also functions as a sort of sequel to “Multiverse of Madness,” focusing on the supernatural consequences of Wanda’s apparent demise. In “Multiverse of Madness,” Wanda was seen using the Darkhold at Wundagore Mountain, and it appeared she was crushed beneath it in the climactic battle. Whether her death is permanent remains uncertain, but it sets the stage for Agatha’s exploration along the Witches’ Path.
