Agatha All Along Trailer Seemingly Leans Into WandaVision's Mephisto Hysteria

As a seasoned Marvel fan with years of comics and films under my belt, I must say that the latest teaser for Agatha All Along has me intrigued and scratching my head simultaneously. The mysterious character “Teen” and the enigmatic script over his mouth resembling an “M” have sparked a flurry of Mephisto theories among fans, including myself (though I’d like to believe we were ahead of the curve on that one).

Following the amusing crossover of Deadpool and Wolverine, the Marvel Cinematic Universe unveiled a fresh sneak peek for its upcoming project. The trailer for Agatha All Along seems to subtly acknowledge the numerous fan theories that swirled around WandaVision on social media. In the newly-released promo for Agatha All Along, attention is given to Joe Locke’s enigmatic character, who goes by “Teen” at present. Though fans have proposed various ideas regarding Locke’s part in the movie, such as him playing Billy Maximoff, the new trailer hints that he cannot utter his name aloud.

On social media, some people are finding it intriguing, to say the least, about the wavy, spiky writing that appears over the Teen’s mouth as he tries to reveal his name to Agatha. This script bears a striking resemblance to an embellished “M,” causing speculation among fans (initially us, but there are already discussions on social media) that this mysterious curse might have been bestowed upon the Teen by Mephisto.

In simpler terms, Mephisto is Marvel Comics’ portrayal of The Devil, making him a formidable and clever antagonist with immense power. However, adapting this character for live-action has proven challenging due to numerous factors. During the series WandaVision, viewers speculated that Mephisto was manipulating events in Westview, although it was eventually revealed that Agatha Harkness was responsible (as the title Agatha All Along suggested). Despite this, fans continue to anticipate Mephisto’s appearance and impact in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

“Kathryn Hahn, the star, shared her confusion about Mephisto rumors, saying, ‘I’ve been hearing whispers about this, but honestly, I have no idea.’ This was a hot topic during WandaVision. However, who knows? With Marvel, anything is possible. At this moment, it seems that anything might be feasible, but I haven’t received any concrete information about that at all.”

As for the Teen? Well, there’s not much in the way of clues to be had really.

The character is not a secret alias; instead, it’s the nickname everyone uses for him, which originated as a humorous in-joke throughout the series, eventually becoming the name by which he is universally known and acknowledged. Locke clarified this to Total Film.

There’s been speculation among fans that Elizabeth Olsen might appear in “Agatha All Along”, particularly if it’s true that Locke is portraying Wanda’s son. Olsen hinted at her return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, even though she earlier stated she wasn’t part of the new Disney+ series. A brief Scarlet Witch reference was made in “Deadpool & Wolverine”.

Besides Kathryn Hahn taking center stage, this series also stars Emma Caulfield from WandaVision, Debra Jo Rupp, David Payton, David Lengel, Asif Ali, Amos Glick, Brian Brightman, and Kate Forbes. Joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time are Aubrey Plaza, Joe Locke, Sasheer Zamata, Eric Andre, Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Okwui Okpokwasil, and Patti LuPone. In other words, I’m looking forward to seeing a fantastic ensemble cast in this upcoming series!

Agatha All Along premieres September 19th.
