Agatha All Along TV Spot Reveals Wizard of Oz Easter Egg

As a gamer with a deep-rooted love for both Disney and witches (I mean, who doesn’t?), I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming series, Agatha All Along. The fact that they’ve taken inspiration from classic films like The Wizard of Oz and Hocus Pocus has me buzzing with excitement!

In the latest episode of “Agatha All Along” on Disney+, there’s a hint reminiscent of “The Wizard of Oz.” Throughout the series, Agatha Harkness is seen in numerous outfits, but one transformation gives her an unusual green hue, echoing the classic 1939 film. Kathryn Hahn seems eager to embrace any challenges that come with “Agatha All Along,” as hinted by recent marketing materials for this show. Catch a glimpse of what Agatha is up to now in this clip:

Showrunner Jac Schaeffer drew inspiration from the film Practical Magic for a touch of witchcraft, particularly fitting for this unconventional group of witches. The East Coast grannycore aesthetic perfectly encapsulates their unique dynamic. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she discussed how various sources influenced their creative process. “These are my kind of ladies – coastal grandmas who are deceitful and manipulative, competing for positions at a private school,” Schaeffer explained. “They’re witches. They form a coven.

Agatha All Along Got Inspired By Famous Witches

In the hit show Agatha All Along, it’s not just the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz who steals the spotlight. As Halloween approaches, the cast members Kathryn Hahn and Aubrey Plaza were asked by Total Film about influences behind the Disney+ series. Interestingly, Agatha herself pointed out the classic movie Hocus Pocus and a few other beloved witch tales as her inspirations. The atmosphere on set was undeniably spooktacular!

As a gamer diving into a new virtual world, I’ve got to say, this upcoming production on Disney+ is shaping up to be a delightful mix of enchanting friendships reminiscent of Hocus Pocus and the magical terror of movies like Poltergeist or E.T., all wrapped up in a Nancy Meyers-esque package. I can already feel the chills of Halloween creeping in, as fans gear up for a season full of spooky antics!

Plaza spoke about her inspirations that leaned towards witchcraft. She found that the themes portrayed in “The Craft” were particularly potent. The film can be quite chilling, and one of the unique aspects of “The Craft” is its character Agatha. It straddles a fine line, as there are moments when it’s comical and has a campy feel, but then it quickly becomes intense, ominous, and genuinely frightening.
