Agatha All Along’s Joe Locke Continues Young Marvel Trend

As a long-time Marvel fan who has followed the evolution of the Avengers since their inception, I am thrilled to see the emergence of the Young Avengers trend. The newcomers, like Joe Locke’s “Teen” character in Agatha All Along, embody the spirit of fervent admiration for the MCU heroes that seems to be a prerequisite for this team.

The latest trailer for “Agatha All Along” reveals how Joe Locke’s character as a teenager aligns with a growing trend among young Marvel heroes. To put it simply, after freeing Agatha Harkness in the Disney+ series, Locke’s character shows an unusual fondness for the notorious Salem witch, much like other potential Young Avengers such as Ms. Marvel, Hawkeye, America Chavez, Cassie Lang and others. These characters have been ardent fans of the Avengers since their birth, which eventually leads to them gaining their powers. In essence, their unwavering admiration for the MCU’s heroes could be what sets them apart.

Via the wonders of the internet, a young person has been investigating Agatha Harkness. He found out she was in Westview following the incidents of WandaVision, and decided to save her from there. Now that he’s broken the spell, he remains elusive about his true identity. (By the way, Wanda’s son Billy has a knack for magic and seems perfect for the Young Avengers team from the comics…) This encounter with Agatha might excite him more than the fulfillment of the wish he’s longed for on the Witches Path. Here’s hoping this meeting brings him powers, as it can be perilous being powerless in today’s world. (Just a random thought: Billy could make an excellent addition to the Young Avengers!)

In essence, the blend of abilities, potential, and unabashed Avengers fandom that characterizes Locke’s Wicca-in-training makes him an ideal pick for the upcoming Young Avengers team. His fanboy status seems essential for this group. With Ironheart joining in the following year, there might be another recruit to their roster. We can only speculate and wait for confirmation.

Iman Vellani Assembles The Young Avengers

It appears that the lineup for the Young Avengers is indeed coming to life, as hinted in the movie “The Marvels” last year. Following the storyline from this film, the ComicBook podcast “Phase Zero” had a discussion with Iman Vellani, who plays Ms. Marvel, about bringing together a new team of young superheroes. In our chat, she disclosed that there was supposed to be a final scene featuring all of them together in “The Marvels”, but it was ultimately replaced by the introduction of Hawkeye’s successor, Kate Bishop.

Vellani clarified, “Indeed, it felt quite similar in many aspects.” She continued, “I believe they aimed to include as much as possible. However, I personally prefer the narrative where Kamala begins shaping the Young Avengers from scratch. To me, there was a scenario where they were already established, which seemed illogical. They acknowledged my concern and decided not to film that version.”

“But, yeah, I think it was really fun and I loved working with Hailee for just that one day that I got to meet her and see her and talk to her. She’s so… it was nice just having someone to relate to about the super suits and… you know, where the future of the Young Avengers lies. So, yeah I’m very excited. Hopefully, that turns into something real…. It’s my favorite part about the first Avengers film too. When Nick Fury and Scarlett Johansson, they all gather together, and they’re like ‘we’re a team now.'”
