As a hardcore Marvel fan who’s seen it all, from the early days of Iron Man to the latest WandaVision madness, I can confidently say that Agatha All Along is shaping up to be an absolute gem! The showrunner’s decision to dive headfirst into this enchanting world, after Kevin Feige‘s nudge, speaks volumes about the potential hidden within this story.
Jac Schaefer, the showrunner of Agatha All Along, discussed how Kevin Feige played a significant role in advocating for the series. In conversations with Empire Magazine, Schaefer shared insights about Kathryn Hahn’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) following the incredible success of WandaVision. With various ideas for another series in mind, Schaefer found herself consistently drawn back to Agatha Harkness. Noticing a pattern and eager about their creative endeavor, Feige suggested a spinoff focusing on Hahn’s beloved character. Marvel apparently had high confidence in the show’s potential, as the WandaVision craze hadn’t fully taken off yet. With this encouragement, Schaefer decided to dive headfirst into the project.
She expressed that she wanted to remain within the realm of the “WandaVision” universe as there seemed to be a countless number of tales left untold. In everything she did, it was like, “And then, suddenly, Agatha appears!” At one point, Kevin suggested, “Maybe it could just be an Agatha series?”
In the bonus commentary for the home release of WandaVision, Schaefer shared a tale that went something like this: “I began discussing with Marvel the idea of creating another project. We had preliminary chats about ‘What if it’s something else?’ and ‘Could it be this property?’ Every concept I proposed included a narrative focusing on Agatha. I recall Kevin suggesting, ‘Perhaps we should seriously consider an actual Agatha series.’ To which I responded, ‘Where do I put my signature for that assignment?'”
Previously, in the additional content of the home release, the main actor discussed the reaction to the series “WandaVision” and how it took everyone by surprise. “We knew we had a unique gem,” Hahn chuckled, “but I think we were all taken aback by the audience’s response. Folks seemed eager for a show that evoked nostalgia and something they could gather around to watch each Friday night.” Friday nights, he exclaimed, “It’s like who still stays home on a Friday night and watches TV with their loved ones!”
