Constantly Train Villagers

In this game, villagers serve as the heart of your civilization, as they primarily help you obtain resources. Therefore, it’s crucial to consistently develop and maintain your villager population, so they can continuously produce resources for you.

The “Instant Village Queue at Game Beginning” feature makes it effortless for newcomers to adapt. When this option is enabled, a Villager will automatically begin training as soon as one appears on the screen. You can find and adjust this setting in the Gameplay section of the Settings menu.

Using Drop Sites

Placing drop-off points near your villagers’ farming areas ensures they can swiftly deposit their resources, reducing travel time between dropping off and resuming collection.

The time that drop sites save can add up pretty quickly. For example, saving 2 seconds between each resource drop will add up and end up saving you a ton of time in the long run.

Early Resource Priority

All of the resources in this game are important, but the priority you should put on them will depend on what stage of the game you are in. In the Archaic Age, your main priority should always be on generating tons of Food. You will constantly need Food to train Villagers and make the advancement to the Classical Age. That said, Gold and Wood are still very important as you will need them to create the structures you need to have to make the advancement to the Classical Age.

A good way to go about this is by assigning your first 4 Villagers to Gold and Wood, with 2 going to each. After those 4, the next 4 will all go towards generating Food. Use one of your Villagers that is on Gold to first create a House, and once that is complete, a Temple.

Once the two constructions are finished, consider transitioning to the Classical Era promptly. This transition requires 400 Food units, a cost that you’re expected to cover given the high importance of Food resources.

As you move into the Classical Era, it’s advisable to reduce the number of villagers working on food production as it may become excessive. Moreover, consider building 2 Barracks and at least 1 House immediately upon entering the Classical Era. During this transition, relocate 2-3 villagers from food collection to wood gathering. This will ensure you have sufficient wood to construct the structures mentioned once you’re in the Classical Age.

Constantly Build Houses to Avoid Getting “Housed”

In Age of Mythology, much like how villagers populate a village, houses serve as structures you’ll have to construct over the course of the game. These houses boost your maximum population capacity, enabling you to train a larger number of troops.

In simple terms, reaching the maximum capacity for your population means you can’t build more units. This state is often referred to as being “Housed”. To prevent this, keep constructing Houses so your army can grow and stay competitive in Age of Mythology Retold, as falling behind in development speed can be detrimental to your progress.
