As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent on Age of Empires series, I can confidently say that the build order guide for the Greek gods in Age of Mythology: Retold is a godsend! Coming from someone who’s battled Titans and navigated the labyrinthine paths of Hades, this general-use build order is a solid foundation for any strategy.

If you’re torn between choosing Hades, Zeus, or Poseidon when playing Age of Mythology: Retold and are struggling to make a decision, following a standard build order for each god could assist in making your choice easier.

This Greek build order is versatile enough to function effectively with assorted pairings of Major and Minor deities. It serves as a dependable all-rounder, though it may not be fully optimized for the unique requirements of specific god combinations.

If that sounds useful to you, read on and we’ll give you our standard opener build order for Greek gods.

This build order we’ll cover for the Greek gods in Age of Mythology: Retold is pretty general, but it should work well for Hades, Zeus, and Poseidon. Just keep in mind it’s not optimized for any particular Major or Minor God.

To get started, assign three of your civilians to construct a Granary and go hunting for food. The fourth civilian should establish a Lumber Camp and begin collecting wood instead. After these tasks are underway, recruit two more civilians and have them set up and operate a Gold Mine.

In short, here’s the plan: Initially, you will have 3 people gathering Food, 2 collecting Gold, and 1 focusing on Wood. Your goal is to add more people to your team as needed, with priority given to those who gather Food until you reach a total of 9 individuals working on Food collection. Once you reach 9 on Food, any additional people should be directed towards Gold collection instead. Keep this distribution up until you’ve accumulated 150 units of both Wood and Gold.

Advancing to the Classical Age

Once you’ve gathered 150 Wood and 150 Gold, please assign one of your Citizens from the Gold Mine to construct a Temple. After the Temple is built, continue with the same Citizen to build a House. Then, keep adding new Citizens to work on Gold extraction until your total population reaches 16.

In brief, your Temple should now be constructed, providing you with the following resources for civilians: 9 Food, 5 Gold, and 1 Wood. Select any Minor God you prefer to start progressing, and you’re all set! Advancement will lead you to the Classical Age, so consider attempting to conquer a nearby Settlement to gain your second Town Center as well.

In Age of Mythology: Retold, no matter if you select Hades, Zeus, or Poseidon as your Greek Major God, the standard opener build order given here will serve well for your initial phase of gameplay. However, keep in mind that once you enter the Classical Age and beyond, the build order may significantly change based on the enemy civilizations and the unique abilities of your chosen gods. This is just a solid foundation for your Greek strategy!
