Age of Mythology: Retold, Riders Republic, and more are coming to Xbox Game Pass

Age of Mythology: Retold, Riders Republic, and more are coming to Xbox Game Pass

What you need to know

  • A new batch of games are coming to Xbox Game Pass in the coming days.
  • Age of Mythology: Retold, Expeditions: A MudRunner Game, Riders Republic, and Train Sim World 5 are all coming to Xbox Game Pass.
  • A few games are also leaving the service soon, including Slime Rancher 2.

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that this latest addition to Xbox Game Pass is right up my alley. With a soft spot for strategy games and a deep-rooted fascination with mythology, Age of Mythology: Retold catches my eye immediately.

Gods, myths, trains, and trucks are all coming to Microsoft’s gaming subscription service.

On Tuesday, as reported on Xbox Wire, the new games joining Xbox Game Pass might not be a huge number, but one noteworthy addition is Age of Mythology: Retold. This strategy game remake has been accessible for a few days to those purchasing the Premium Edition, and also for Xbox Game Pass subscribers who opt for the Premium Upgrade (a business model that’s common across many games in the Xbox first-party lineup). Starting now, it will be available to everyone.

Here’s everything coming to Xbox Game Pass in the next couple of weeks:

September 3

  • Star Truckers (Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Windows PC)

September 4

  • Age of Mythology: Retold  (Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Windows PC)

September 5

  • Expeditions: A MudRunner Game (Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Windows PC)

September 11

  • Riders Republic (Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Windows PC)

September 17

  • Train Sim World 5 (Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Windows PC)

What’s leaving Xbox Game Pass on September 15?

Here are several games that will be leaving Xbox Game Pass this month, as is often the case with third-party titles. They typically depart after spending a set period within the service, usually around a year, though this isn’t always consistent. If you wish to continue playing these games, you’ll have to buy them. Just a heads up, purchasing games currently in Xbox Game Pass offers a discount, so take advantage of the savings and grab these games before they disappear from the service:

  • Ashes of Singularity: Escalation
  • FIFA 23
  • Payday 3
  • Slime Rancher 2
  • SpiderHeck
  • You Suck At Parking

Analysis: A small but nice addition

With only a few games, this isn’t a massive wave of new titles for players to go through.

Still, there’s some gems here, and I will continue to sing the praises of Age of Mythology: Retold. It’s an excellent strategy game and an excellent remake, with smart additions like controller support across console and PC that make it feel modern.

In my assessment of Age of Mythology: Retold, I stated that if you were a fan of the original Age of Mythology, this is an essential pick-up. For those newcomers who are intrigued by the concept but hesitant about diving into a strategy game, I would encourage them to take the plunge. The updated gameplay, controller compatibility, and accessibility features make this world of gods and monsters an ideal starting point for embarking on your strategy gaming adventure.
