As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent in the realm of Age of Mythology, I must say that tackling Thor in Age of Mythology: Retold is akin to wrestling a Norse thunderstorm – it’s challenging, but oh-so-rewarding! The key to mastering this lightning-wielding deity lies in understanding the intricacies of his build order.
In the game “Age of Mythology: Retold”, Thor is among the selectable Major Norse Deities, and it’s crucial for him to have a well-structured sequence of construction (build order) right from the start.
Mainly, Thor benefits significantly by working with Dwarves together with common Villagers. His unique feature to acquire free Dwarves through specific upgrades allows him to expand his population earlier than most players. But, mastering Thor requires careful management and attention to detail.
As a seasoned gamer diving into the world of Thor, I’m here to share a robust gameplan that will set you on the path to mastery. Let me walk you through an effective build sequence that serves as a strong foundation for your journey.
Thor Build Order Guide | Age of Mythology: Retold
In Age of Mythology: Retold, our strategy with this Thor build focuses on establishing a Dwarven Fortress promptly. To kick things off, your initial 3 Dwarves should be tasked to collect Wood from the nearest solitary tree. Ensure that an Ox Cart is positioned near the gatherers to expedite resource transportation. Allow them to completely chop and gather resources from that tree before moving on. Additionally, your starting Berserker should be assigned to construct 1 Dwarven Fortress and 1 House.
Meanwhile, have seven villagers go out to hunt local animals for food. Once the dwarves complete their initial work on a tree, direct them towards the Dwarven Mine to collect gold instead.
Once the Dwarven Armory is constructed, focus on developing Copper Shields and then proceed to Copper Armor research sequentially. As soon as you upgrade, recruit the first available Dwarf, instruct him to fell the closest solitary tree. Immediately train 2 new Dwarves at the Town Center, designate one to work in the Dwarven Mine and the other to join the free Dwarf at the same tree site.
After acquiring your second complimentary Dwarf from the Dwarven Armory, go ahead and place them on the same tree where you positioned your initial free Dwarf. Ideally, this tree will have three Dwarves tending to it; the two free ones, including the new one, and one that you’ve personally trained. Furthermore, when you accumulate 150 Wood and 150 Gold, make sure to deploy your Berserk to construct a Temple.
In unison, bring in three additional villagers and task them with foraging for food. At this juncture, your community’s distribution should look like this: 10 villagers gathering food, 5 dwarves mining gold, and 3 dwarves cutting wood. Your temple construction seems to be proceeding well, so you’ll likely reach the Classical Age in no time!
Reaching the Classical Age
The deity you select for progressing into the Classical Age will depend on the type of map you’re managing. If your Gold Mine is positioned facing an adversary civilization, it would be advantageous to pick Forseti. His Healing Spring ability and defensive traits can aid in defending yourself more effectively.
At this stage, the choice between Forseti or Freyja is entirely yours based on preference. This decision also opens up an opportunity to focus on Copper Weapons research as you progress. However, make sure you have a secure strategy in place for protecting your Gold Mine before proceeding with this investment.
As you progress in the game, it’s time for your Dwarves to switch from mining gold in the Dwarven Mine to working at a Standard Gold Mine. To facilitate transportation, have them construct an Ox Cart next to the Gold Mine. Meanwhile, select three of your Villagers from their food production tasks and reassign them to gather wood instead. Establish another Ox Cart near where they harvest wood for efficient resource management.
From the Classical Age onward, the strategy for building your Thor in this guide becomes flexible, largely depending on the actions of your opponents since Age of Mythology: Retold is known for its dynamic and unpredictable nature. Regardless, you’re well-prepared to begin effectively now!
As a fellow admirer of Norse mythology, if you’re finding it tough to master Thor, I’d recommend giving my build strategy for Odin a try. He may just become your new favorite Norse god in the game!
