Ahead Of Kelsey Grammer’s Beast Return In Avengers: Doomsday, The Actor Explained Why He Considers His X-Men Character ‘The Martin Luther King Of The Mutants’

After his supporting role in “X-Men: The Last Stand” and brief appearance in “X-Men: Days of Future Past”, it was not expected that Kelsey Grammer would play Beast again, especially since Nicholas Hoult had assumed the role of the blue-furred mutant. However, 2023 brought “The Marvels”, where Grammer reprised his voice for a different universe’s Beast. Now, he’s one of the actors from the Fox X-Men era returning in next year’s “Avengers: Doomsday”. Prior to the arrival of the upcoming Marvel film, Grammer shared an extensive rationale behind why he views Beast as the “civil rights leader figure” or “Martin Luther King of the mutants.

Grammer, during his appearance on The Jamie Kern Lima Show, delved into one of his most renowned roles within his genre. When the host inquired about his upcoming return as Beast, or Hank McCoy, in Doomsday, the actor Frasier shared his reasons for loving playing this character so dearly.

I’m drawn to this character because he embodies integrity, honor, and a thoughtful nature, which is what makes him appealing. To me, he resembles Martin Luther King among the mutants. He carries himself with a sense of nobility and has a vision, ready to stand up for it, though he tends to avoid conflict when possible. However, when all other options are exhausted, his response is swift and firm, leaving no room for compromise. I appreciate this trait about him.

As a film enthusiast, I must say that description truly resonates with Beast’s character depth. Beyond his acclaimed status as one of the world’s top biochemists, he exhibits expertise in numerous scientific and artistic domains. Yet, what makes him stand out is his unwavering activism for mutant rights. While he’s capable of physical confrontation when needed, he primarily relies on his eloquence and intellect to challenge discrimination faced by mutants. In the movie X-Men: The Last Stand, Beast initially served as the United States’ Secretary of Mutant Affairs, ultimately rising to become the United Nations’ ambassador by the film’s end.

In the upcoming film “Avengers: Doomsday,” it’s uncertain how many Martin Luther King Jr.-like characteristics we’ll witness, but regardless, Kelsey Grammer expresses enthusiasm for portraying Beast once more, stating:

I believe he’s a person of genuine integrity, and I aim to uphold the same values when interacting with him. He’s someone who strives for moral goodness in all aspects of life, and I admire that quality in him.

It’s still unclear whether the Beast character in the movie “Doomsday” is the same one who appeared in the end-credits scene of “The Marvels,” and was associated with Binary, aka Maria Rambeau’s variant. However, what has been confirmed is that in the X-Men universe, he will be joined by characters such as Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, Ian McKellen’s Magneto, Rebecca Romijn’s Mystique, Alan Cumming’s Nightcrawler, James Marsden’s Cyclops and Channing Tatum’s Gambit. Given Nicholas Brendon’s excitement for the role of Beast, there’s a chance he may also reprise the character in “Avengers: Secret Wars.

Indeed, the X-Men are simply one of multiple Marvel groups appearing in “Avengers: Doomsday“, as the Fantastic Four and newly introduced New Avengers also take part. Join these superheroes beginning on May 1, 2026, as they intersect in action.
