Akira’s Iconic Bike Is One Step Closer to Being a Reality

Sci-fi anime overflows with impressive technology, from mech suits to gravitational beam projectors. However, no science fiction gadget outshines the bike from Akira. In the movie, this iconic red motorcycle was ridden by Kaneda, and it has since become one of the most influential symbols of anime globally. The famous “Akira slide” move, which has been imitated in numerous films and television programs, has sparked dreams among fans worldwide to own their very own replica of the bike. Although that moment remains in the future, progress is being made towards bringing this legendary bike into reality.

Numerous enthusiasts have endeavored to replicate Kaneda’s motorcycle in various ways. Some have fashioned it for cosplay purposes using materials like PVC and foam, while others with substantial financial resources have built functional prototypes that somewhat resemble the bike from the movie. The design of the bike is the principal hurdle, as the rider sits low between the wheels, making it difficult for manufacturers to perfect. Completely duplicating Kaneda’s bike remains a formidable task, but one company has taken Akira as a significant source of inspiration for a brand-new prototype design.

A New Akira Electric Bike Is In Development

Here at ComicBook, we usually discuss newly launched merchandise and partnerships between brands. We understand that everyone’s financial circumstances may differ, but generally, these items are within reach for many people. However, this particular item might be a bit out of the ordinary budget range.

Over at Reload Land, Berlin, Ichiban Motorcycle – a Japanese motorcycle company – unveiled its newest prototype, drawing inspiration from Katsuhiro Otomo’s iconic work, Akira. This bold red and white bike borrows some design elements from the movie, though it bears little resemblance to Kaneda’s actual motorcycle. The frame is compact yet stylish, accommodating only a solo rider comfortably. Here’s a look at its unique design…

The New Akira Bike Is Insanely Fast!

The official press release announced, “Our First Model Makes Its Appearance at Reload Land.” Last weekend marked a significant milestone. At Reload Land in Berlin, Europe‘s top venue for electric bikes, we presented our initial model to the public: Ichiban Prototype 01. It’s daring. It’s electric. And it was designed with one singular focus: the rider’s experience.

The bike’s specifications are remarkably impressive, boasting a 0-60mph speed in just 3.5 seconds. What makes this even more astounding is the availability of the “Godzilla Mode,” which amplifies the torque for exceptionally quick acceleration. Enthusiasts who have the means to invest in a new motorcycle can express their interest through pre-registration, with approximately 2,000 fans eagerly anticipating purchasing one as soon as they become available in production. This sounds like something straight out of an Akira fan’s dream!

1988 saw the release of Katsuhiro Otomo’s groundbreaking anime film, “Akira,” a work that has significantly shaped the genre. Set in a future Neo Tokyo, post-post-apocalyptic in nature, the narrative revolves around Tetsuo and Kaneda, two adolescent motorcyclists who unwittingly get entangled in clandestine government research projects with potentially cataclysmic consequences for the world.
