Al Green Booted from Congress as Trump Speech Sparks ‘Goodbye’ Chants!

President Donald Trump‘s latest address in the U.S. Capitol has experienced a slight hiccup.

Representative Al Green, a longtime Democratic congressman from Texas, was asked to leave the House floor due to his interruptions while an elderly individual (78 years old) was speaking during a joint meeting of Congress.

Green exclaimed at Trump, “There’s no authorization for that!” This was in response to Trump claiming that a potential 2024 presidential election against Vice President Kamala Harris would be “an authorization unlike any seen in many decades.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) asked Green to return to his seat first, but when he didn’t obey, Johnson eventually ordered for his removal.

Reading from the rules, Johnson stated, “It seems these individuals persistently disrupt proceedings improperly. As a result, the Chair commands the Marshal to reestablish order and escort this person out of the room.

Security personnel along with the House Sergeant at Arms, Ronny Jackson (R-Texas), escorted Green out. This was followed by Republicans chanting, “Na na na na, goodbye,” as reported by NBC News.

Outside the chamber, Green expressed to reporters that, being a conscientious individual, he feels Trump’s actions are ones that should not be tolerated any longer.

According to the report, he stated that his proposed budget would lead to reductions in Medicaid, and he made this comment because he does not actually have the authority or public support to make such cuts to healthcare for low-income individuals. In simpler terms, he doesn’t have a clear mandate from the public to cut health care services for the poor.

And Green, unrelated to Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), has consistently been critical of Trump even before his recent outburst. During Trump’s initial term as President, Green submitted impeachment articles against the former Apprentice contestant for alleged “serious misconduct.

In January, just following Trump’s inauguration for his second term, Green announced that he would persist in advocating for the President’s impeachment.

In a press conference, he expressed that not holding an unsuitable president accountable according to the constitution might expose society to even more harm. He also warned that the lack of impeachment allows division and suffering to persist and grow. Essentially, he suggested that the benefits of impeachment in healing societal issues are being withheld or postponed.

In the years 2019 and 2021, Donald Trump faced impeachment charges: first for misusing his power and disregarding Congress, and later for inciting an uprising. However, on both occasions, the Senate decided not to find him guilty.

In January, just following Trump’s inauguration for his second term, Green expressed his intention to keep advocating for the President’s impeachment.

In his press conference, he stated that not removing a president who violates the constitution could lead to more damage for our society. He also mentioned that the lack of impeachment allows problems to grow deeper and causes further suffering in society as the benefits of impeachment are postponed or ignored.

As a steadfast supporter looking back, I can recall that I was impeached twice – first in 2019 for misusing my power and obstructing Congress, and then again in 2021 for inciting an uprising. However, on both occasions, the Senate decided to clear me of all charges.
