Alan Wake 2 Hits Profit Milestone as Control 2 Enters Full Production!

The survival-horror game by Remedy Entertainment, Alan Wake 2, has surpassed 2 million copies sold and is now generating a profit. This information emerges from the developer’s recent financial reports, which verify that Alan Wake 2 has commenced earning royalties. Prior to this, Remedy was still recuperating the production and promotional costs of the game, which debuted in October 2023 and rapidly became Remedy’s record-breaking game sale.

After its release, Remedy Entertainment continued to enhance Alan Wake 2 by providing bug fixes and updates, which included a captivating feature called Photo Mode. Additionally, the game was subsequently expanded with two DLC packs: Night Springs and The Lake House. The Night Springs expansion showcased three chilling tales in an anthology format, while The Lake House delved deeper into the game’s horror aspects.

In my critique of Alan Wake 2, I noted that Remedy Entertainment constructs an engaging odyssey brimming with surprises and intricacies, exploring the protagonist deeply. Despite its disorganized, flawed storyline that doesn’t attempt to resolve every subplot, it offers a gritty, affecting adventure.

Remedy’s lineup is stacked for the years ahead

Moving forward, Remedy Entertainment has a lot on their plate as they juggle several projects simultaneously. Right now, they’re deep into production for the Max Payne 1 and 2 remake, which is supported by Rockstar Games in terms of funding and publishing. Moreover, Remedy announced on Wednesday that they will be fully diving into the development of Control 2 at the end of February, marking the conclusion of the pre-production planning phase for this action-RPG.

505 Games transferred the publishing rights for Remedy’s Control franchise to them, and now, Remedy has struck a deal with Annapurna Interactive. Under this agreement, Annapurna will cover half of the development costs for the game. In return, they gain the rights to produce films and TV shows based on Remedy’s intellectual properties.

Immediately, Remedy is currently developing a game titled FBC: Firebreak, which is a self-published, three-player cooperative experience with a player vs. environment theme, derived from Control. The objective of FBC: Firebreak is to have a team prevent breaches within the Oldest House by employing teamwork and an array of unusual weapons. Financial records suggest that FBC: Firebreak must sell approximately 3-4 million copies in order to turn a profit.

At the moment, there isn’t a specific release date for Firebreak, but we shouldn’t have to wait too much longer for updates, as it’s planned to debut sometime in 2025 on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and PlayStation 5. Upon its launch, you can find it on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PlayStation Plus Extra.
