Alan Wake 2 Update Adds Option to Turn Off PSSR on PS5 Pro

Alan Wake 2 Update Adds Option to Turn Off PSSR on PS5 Pro

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen my fair share of updates and patches for games – some good, some not so much. The latest update for Alan Wake 2 has certainly piqued my interest. The addition of a Balanced mode for 120Hz displays on the PS5 Pro is a welcome one, as it seems to offer the best of both worlds: the resolution from Performance mode and the settings from Quality mode while targeting a consistent 40 FPS.

In response to problems with the PS5 Pro upgrade for Alan Wake 2, Remedy Entertainment has rolled out a fresh update, incorporating modifications and extra options. Among these are a new Balanced mode tailored for 120Hz screens. This mode blends Performance mode’s resolution with the settings of the PS5 Pro Quality mode while aiming for a consistent 40 frames per second (FPS).

The update makes minor modifications to the Performance mode settings, aiming to deliver a smoother and more stable frame rate. Additionally, it optimizes ray tracing settings within Quality and Balanced modes to minimize visual noise. Notably, it offers an option to disable PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution. This change aligns with reports that Bloober Team replaced the former in the Silent Hill 2 remake with Temporal Super Resolution for the console’s Performance Mode.

In response to some issues, Massive Entertainment has added a feature to turn off PSSR in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. For more details about this update and other fixes (including those for The Lake House), you can find the complete patch notes below.
