He gained notoriety for his portrayal of the controversial Police Constable (later Inspector) Dale ‘Smithy’ Smith in the ITV police drama, The Bill. This captivating series was my home from 1999 until the show’s dramatic conclusion in 2010.
I had the opportunity to portray the character of Nurse Adrian ‘Fletch’ Fletcher in both the BBC series Casualty and Holby City.
In 2022, when Holby came to an end, Fletch was there to guide his best friend and icy surgeon Jac Naylor (played by Rosie Marcel) on her last steps within the hospital as she prepared to leave.
In the initial broadcast of the BBC’s school drama series Waterloo Road, Walkinshaw portrayed sports teacher Jez Diamond. During this run, he shared the screen with Jaye Jacobs, who was his on-screen wife Sian in Waterloo Road and also appeared alongside him as Donna Jackson in Holby City.
