Alien: Romulus Reveals Third Popcorn Bucket, and Collectors Will Want to Take Notice

Alien: Romulus Reveals Third Popcorn Bucket, and Collectors Will Want to Take Notice

As a huge fan of science fiction and movies in general, I can’t help but be absolutely thrilled by the popcorn bucket craze that has taken over cinemas this year! The novelty popcorn buckets for movies like “Dune: Part Two” at AMC Theatres and the upcoming “Alien: Romulus” at Cinemark and Regal, have truly added an exciting element to movie-going experiences.

As a movie enthusiast and popcorn lover who’s been going to the cinemas since I was a kid, let me tell you, this year has been an absolute game-changer for us popcorn bucket aficionados! I still remember the first time I saw AMC Theatres’ sandworm bucket for “Dune: Part Two” making waves online. It wasn’t just another novelty popcorn bucket; it was a work of art that sparked endless conversations and even inspired an SNL sketch.

Today, Cinemark Theatres unveiled their latest popcorn container on social media with a subtle difference from Regal’s bucket. While the design shares similarities, Cinemark chose to avoid the eerie reveal that Regal used. Take a peek at Cinemark’s post below for a comparison.

The structural excellence of this item is equaled only by its desirability for collectors.

AMC Exec Reacts to Dune Popcorn Bucket Backlash:

Alien: Romulus Reveals Third Popcorn Bucket, and Collectors Will Want to Take Notice

I had the pleasure of listening to Elizabeth Frank, the Chief Content Officer at AMC, speak with Variety about the delayed production of “Dune: Part Two.” She shared her thoughts on the situation.

Frank expressed that we are always growing and discovering new things, including the unexpected success of “Dune.” We couldn’t have predicted its reception, whether positive or negative. She agreed that the Saturday Night Live sketch was a significant recognition, but it wasn’t something we could manufacture. It wouldn’t be right to divert our creative team for that purpose.

A portion of our fanbase can be classified as collectors. Meanwhile, another segment enthusiastically supports particular films by acquiring multiple items related to “Ghostbusters”. This diversity contributes significantly to our food and beverage business, though it doesn’t dominate. It enhances the movie experience, making it more enjoyable – similar to bringing home a concert souvenir. The creative excitement surrounding these merchandises is palpable.

What Is Alien: Romulus About?

Romulus” is marketed as a separate storyline within the “Alien” series instead of a straight-forward sequel. It introduces a new cast of space settlers who encounter the most frightening creature in the universe.

In “Alien: Romulus,” I see Cailee Spaeny (“Priscilla”), David Jonsson (“Agatha Christie’s Murder is Easy”), Archie Renaux (“Shadow and Bone”), Isabela Merced (“The Last of Us”), Spike Fearn (“Aftersun”), and Aileen Wu joining the cast. Fede Jlvarez, who previously directed “Evil Dead” and “Don’t Breathe,” is at the helm, co-writing the screenplay with his frequent collaborator Rodo Sayagues for characters originally created by Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett.

Alien: Romulus hits theaters on August 16th.
