As a lifelong fan of the Alien franchise, I can wholeheartedly say that Benjamin Wallfisch’s score for Alien: Romulus is nothing short of a masterpiece. The way he weaves together musical nods to Jerry Goldsmith’s original score and James Horner’s iconic work on Aliens is truly remarkable. It’s like listening to the soundtrack of my childhood, but with a fresh twist that keeps me on the edge of my seat.
Just like how the latest movie “Alien: Romulus” echoes the earlier installments of the series, the score by Benjamin Wallfisch incorporates references to the music that was previously used in those films.
Specifically mentioned are Jerry Goldsmith’s music for the original Alien and James Horner’s score from the first sequel, Aliens. Additionally, there are a few nods to the more contemporary soundtrack of Prometheus, composed by Marc Streitenfeld.
According to Variety, Wallfisch enthusiastically shared that working on these classic movies was a delightful experience for him due to his deep affection for them.
“To capture the essence of Horner and Goldsmith’s musical heritage, I aimed to maintain the familiar feel while introducing novelty by blending electronic sounds with classical orchestral tones.”
He added: “The score is a reflection of the film’s complex characters and the eerie, tension-filled atmosphere of deep space, blending new techniques with the timeless sound of the Alien universe.”
