In the action-packed comic book series “Aliens vs. Avengers,” written by Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribic, the third issue continues the thrilling ride with a blend of characters such as David, featured in the controversial “Prometheus/Aliens: Covenant” movies. This storyline explores the catastrophic consequences when Xenomorphs invade an Earth inhabited by superheroes. The first two issues depicted the Avengers and Earth’s heroes struggling to contain the alien threat, with only one spaceship managing to escape, steered by Captain Marvel, Iron Man, and Miles Morales as Spider-Man. In issue #3, they reach Mars, where mutants have established their own settlement, seeking refuge from the prejudice of Earth.
Instead, they encounter an eerily empty town, devoid of friends and familiar faces, due to Mister Sinister’s fixation on genetic perfection embodied by the Xenomorph. This grim scenario sets the stage for a harsh conflict that could potentially wipe out humanity altogether. Nevertheless, the Avengers remain resolute, though not without suffering heavy losses, including one original team member.
Mister Sinister Fed Most of the Mutants to the Xenomorphs and Planned on Doing the Same to the Human Refugees
In a swift turn of events, The Avengers’ clash with Mister Sinister turns sour when he unleashes fully-grown Xenomorphs upon them and commands his clones to assault their human vessel with a device firing facehuggers, escalating his Xenomorph collection. The Avengers respond promptly, aiming to extricate themselves from this dire predicament while concurrently preventing the annihilation of the remaining human population. However, they find themselves in a struggle familiar to them, as the Xenomorph horde proves too powerful for their capabilities. Despite their valiant efforts, they ultimately succumb to sheer numbers.
A critical moment in their struggle occurs when an aged and injured Iron Man, donning advanced Iron Man armor to stand, is ambushed mid-flight by Xenomorphs, plummeting him to Earth. With their protective shield gone, the Avengers start to falter. Miles Morales is separated from Captain Marvel, leaving Carol Danvers surrounded by a closing circle of Xenomorphs. She fights valiantly, but the numbers prove too great for her, particularly after a vicious acid attack to the face. It appears all is lost for Captain Marvel, until the arrival from above of two familiar figures – Emma Frost and Armor. They swiftly cut through the Xenomorphs, while Wolverine manages to extract Captain Marvel from the dangerous situation with assistance from Manifold. After her injuries are treated, Captain Marvel learns from the mutants that Iron Man and Miles Morales were both overpowered by the Xenomorphs, and they were unable to save them. Captain Marvel and the mutants return to the city, where they find the lifeless body of Iron Man encased in his armor.
From Ruin to Hope
The demise of Iron Man deals the most devastating blow yet for Earth and Mars’ dwindling population. His genius had been instrumental in Earth’s last inhabitants escaping their Xenomorph-infested planet, and his brilliance was one of the Avengers’ most powerful assets. His leadership also played a crucial role in keeping everyone alive amidst dire circumstances. The revelation that Mister Sinister betrayed both mutants and humans adds an unexpected twist that makes sense, but Iron Man’s death takes away someone who could have been instrumental in fighting Sinister’s Xenomorph horde on Mars. However, Aliens Vs. Avengers #3 offers a glimmer of hope for readers, with hints at the beginning (though it’s less optimistic) and a more substantial one towards the end.
The trouble starts when numerous Davids cause chaos among the Engineers, leading to a disastrous outcome for the Davids themselves. Managing to regain control, the Engineers depart into space in search of retribution against the android. By the end of this installment, Captain Marvel and the remaining X-Men are scrutinizing a mutant spaceport when they notice Wakanda’s ships returning. Given that T’Challa, aka Black Panther, could potentially fill Iron Man’s vacated role, it appears we are approaching the resolution to the Xenomorph conflict, hopefully saving what remains of humanity.
