Known for his recurring roles as protective father figures in shows like The Mandalorian and The Last of Us, Pedro Pascal is a familiar and highly respected figure in today’s popular culture. He first gained widespread recognition with his performance as Oberyn Martell on Game of Thrones. Since then, this Chilean-American actor has built a reputation as one of Hollywood’s contemporary franchise stars by taking on prominent roles in numerous critically acclaimed films and TV series.
Beyond just earning recognition, he’s also become known for something else throughout his career. Much like Sean Bean, Samuel L. Jackson, and Christopher Lee, Pascal’s characters often meet an untimely end during the course of films or series. Furthermore, these deaths are frequently dramatic and memorable, solidifying his status as one of the most frequently “eliminated” actors working in cinema or television today.
11. Buffy The Vampire Slayer (1999)
Method Of Death: Turned Into A Vampire And Staked
You might not know this, but Pedro Pascal, who later became famous, made one of his earliest acting appearances in the supernatural drama series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer“. He only appeared for a single episode before leaving, but it’s significant because that was also where he experienced his first on-screen death.
In the opening scenes of season 4’s “The Freshman”, the modest character named Eddie gets bitten and turned into a vampire by the malicious group of bloodsuckers at Sunnydale University. Later, when Buffy discovers his transformation, he tries to attack her in a heart-wrenching twist. However, his life as a vampire is short-lived; he’s quickly eliminated after a brief fight when Buffy stakes him through the heart, ending his existence prematurely.
10. Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (2011)
Method Of Death: Shot To Death
After over a decade since his last onscreen death, Pascal made a comeback to playing deceased characters with Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in 2011. This marked the third time he appeared on a Law & Order show, and in the final episode of the twelfth season of Law & Order: SVU, he portrayed the guest role of Special Agent Greer.
Sadly for Pascal’s team member, the crooked ATF agent met a tragic end, fatally shot and filled with bullets in a detention center prior to the episode wrapping up. Greer fell victim to Hayley McFarland’s Jenna Fox in a frenzied crime of passion, resulting in several innocent bystanders also being killed, leading to a dramatic finish for the episode.
9. Nikita (2013)
Method Of Death: Shot To Death
2013 proved to be a year where Pedro Pascal’s onscreen character met an untimely end through gunfire, as he appeared in two different television productions that were both action-packed dramas. In the first instance, he portrayed the transient role of Liam, a rogue “cleaner,” who was fatally shot in the third season episode titled “Aftermath” of the series called Nikita. This unfortunate demise took place approximately six months prior to his second onscreen death by gunshot.
Even though Pascal’s brief appearance on Nikita showed he was a formidable adversary, in the end, he was outsmarted by Maggie Q and Devon Sawa’s characters. Liam met his demise in the final scene of the episode when Nikita skillfully positioned him for attack. With a closed door shielding Owen, she fired bullets that found their mark.
8. Graceland (2013)
Method Of Death: Shot To Death
In my humble opinion, stepping into a lesser-known but equally captivating role, Pascal graced the screen in the gripping police drama “Graceland.” Known for his recent stint as the Mandalorian, Pascal took on a recurring supporting role throughout the first season. As FBI agent Juan Badillo, my review finds Pascal’s character functioning as Mike Warren’s handler before meeting an untimely end, departing at the conclusion of “Graceland’s” premiere episode.
In error, Daniel Sunjata’s character Paul Briggs thought Badillo was the infamous cartel assassin called Jangles, so he got into a violent fight with Pascal’s group. The battle ended tragically when Badillo was killed in an unexpected manner; his own gun accidentally fired during a brief scuffle. Later, we see Badillo being buried in the desert by Briggs, marking one of Pascal’s less dramatic deaths.
7. Game Of Thrones (2014)
Method Of Death: Skull Crushed
Often considered one of the most shocking deaths in “Game of Thrones”, the violent demise of Prince Oberyn Martell, also known as the Red Viper of Dorne, is commonly regarded as a strong contender for the series’ most gruesome ending. Adored by fans for his charming and lethal persona, the unexpectedly brutal end of Pascal’s character made an indelible impact on viewers.
In keeping with the original storyline of “Game of Thrones”, Oberyn Martell turns defeat into victory’s opposite in an intense duel against Ser Gregor Clegane, fighting for Tyrion Lannister’s life. Instead of continuing his boastful speech towards the wounded opponent, Oberyn is taken by surprise when the Mountain, who rides again, strikes. Delighting in the spectacle, Clegane then brutally crushes Oberyn’s skull with a force reminiscent of a gorilla smashing a watermelon, through his very eyes.
6. Bloodsucking Bastards (2015)
Method Of Death: Stabbed In The Head And Staked In The Heart
It’s hard to believe that Pascal’s character has died multiple times on screen, each time in different vampire roles and usually by being staked through the heart. One of Pedro Pascal’s lesser-known yet remarkable performances can be found in the 2015 comedy-horror movie “Bloodsucking Bastards”, where he plays the antagonist, Max Phillips, a newly appointed sales manager who turns out to be a vampire.
It’s somewhat amusing that the film “Bloodsucking Bastards” is among Pascal’s least known works, given how dramatically impressive his death scene turns out to be. Max meets his untimely end after a knife is driven into his skull and a stake is thrust through his heart, culminating in a dramatic burst of blood following an apocalyptic explosion.
5. Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017)
Method Of Death: Pushed Into A Meat Grinder
In the 2017 film “Kingsman: The Golden Circle,” Julianne Moore’s character, Poppy Adams, is first perceived as the main antagonist. However, by the end of the movie, it could be argued that Agent Whiskey, played by Pascal, takes over this role. As the story reaches its peak, Agent Whiskey reveals his intent to annihilate every drug user worldwide, seeking revenge for the death of his pregnant wife at the hands of methamphetamine addicts. This intention is made clear in the climactic scenes directed by Matthew Vaughn.
Sadly for Whiskey, his aspirations are swiftly shattered, in a figurative and literal manner. Pascal’s malicious sleeper agent meets his end following a thrilling confrontation with Eggsy and Harry, culminating in a brutal scene where Whiskey is forced headfirst into an industrial meat-grinder.
4. The Equalizer 2 (2018)
Method Of Death: Butchered And Thrown Off A Watch Tower
In the 2018 film “The Equalizer 2”, Pascal took on the role of the main antagonist, Dave York. This character’s storyline in the sequel showcases why it’s a disastrous move to mess with Robert McCall, the title character portrayed by Denzel Washington. Once a friend and partner to McCall, York finds himself engaged in a confrontation with his former ally after he is exposed as the murderer of Susan Plummer, played by Melissa Leo.
Regrettably, for this wolf disguised as a sheep, his decision proves fatal. In a dramatic and satisfying instance of poetic justice, McCall emerges victorious in a violent confrontation atop a stormy coastal watchtower against his former comrade. Washington’s retaliation leaves Dave critically injured with the same knife blows he inflicted on Plummer, before coldly throwing the dying assassin off the tower to fall onto the rocks below.
3. Drive-Away Dolls (2024)
Method Of Death: Decapitated
As a passionate film enthusiast, I was eagerly looking forward to Pedro Pascal’s appearance in Ethan Coen’s 2024 solo crime-comedy, “Drive-Away Dolls.” However, my anticipation was short-lived as Santos, the character played by Pascal, met an untimely end in the film’s very first scene. The villainous bartender swiftly ended Santos’ life due to a case he carried, filled with unique sex toys crafted from the genitals of influential figures. A disappointingly quick exit for such a talented actor!
In a painful and agonizing manner, Santos meets a brutal end when he is stabbed with a corkscrew in the neck, following being cornered. Before this, a bartender inflicts gruesome cruelty by gouging his eyes, reminiscent of Pascal’s tragic demise on Game of Thrones. Thankfully, the scene showing his attackers sawing off his head is not shown, but his decapitated skull endures additional humiliation even after his death.
2. Gladiator II (2024)
Method Of Death: Shot With Multiple Arrows
2024’s much-awaited sequel, “Gladiator II,” features Pedro Pascal joining a stellar cast in an impactful role as General Marcus Acacius. In the storyline, Acacius is married to Lucilla, portrayed by Connie Nielsen, but finds himself under threat from Paul Mescal’s character Lucius, who suspects him of being responsible for the death of his wife, Arishat.
As a devoted cinephile, I’ve always known that Pascal’s unforgettable on-screen presence would never be marked by an ordinary demise. In a film brimming with gladiators battling for the amusement of the masses, it was no surprise that Acacius met his tragic end at the hands of the ruthless twin emperors, Geta and Caracalla. Instead of engaging in combat with Lucius in the arena, Acacius refused, sealing his fate. His final moments were marked by a grand spectacle as he was riddled with countless arrows, transforming him into a human target by the time the archers had finished their deadly barrage.
1. The Last Of Us (2025)
Method Of Death: Stabbed Through The Neck
The start of “The Last of Us” season 2 marked an emotionally devastating event that fans of Naughty Dog’s game series had been apprehensive about since the HBO adaptation was unveiled: the tragic demise of Joel Miller, portrayed by Pedro Pascal. His final onscreen performance powerfully captured one of the saddest scenes from the original material, a pivotal moment for “The Last of Us” that has left viewers emotionally shaken.
At first, Pedro Pascal’s beloved character is struck by Kaitlyn Dever’s vengeful Abby using a shotgun. Later, he’s brutally attacked with a golf club and almost killed. Just as it seems like the end, Bella Ramsey’s Ellie appears. Unfortunately, they arrive too late to prevent Abby from delivering the fatal blow by impaling Joel with a broken golf club through his neck, a sight that leaves Ellie shocked and horrified. This grim scene is one of the most disturbing deaths on TV since Glenn Rhee’s on The Walking Dead.
