If you’re a fan of xenomorphs, consider renewing your Hulu subscription before the month ends. This streaming service, owned by Disney and known for its more mature content, is set to include the entire Alien series. With the upcoming release of Alien: Earth later this year, it’s a great time to catch up on all the films. The collection includes nine movies, each featuring ruthless aliens attempting to harvest humans. The franchise also shares a divisive connection with the Predator saga.
From June 1st onwards, enthusiasts of the Alien universe can enjoy streaming all their favorite films on a single platform. This is quite unusual, as it’s not common for all movies in a franchise to be accessible on the same streaming service—especially one with such a rich collection of films like Alien. However, due to Disney acquiring Fox, they now hold the rights to all Alien movies, making Hulu the ideal choice for housing these films. The following titles will be added:
- Alien (1979)
- Aliens (1986)
- Alien 3 (1992)
- Alien Resurrection (1997)
- Alien vs. Predator (2004)
- Alien vs. Predator: Requiem (2007)
- Prometheus (2012)
- Alien: Covenant (2017)
*Alien: Romulus, the 2024 entry of the Alien universe, is already streaming on Hulu.
I can’t help but express my admiration for the enduring impact of the Alien franchise, a testament to Ridley Scott’s visionary storytelling back in 1979. That groundbreaking film set new standards for horror and science fiction, blurring genre boundaries and reinforcing the notion that space exploration can sometimes be perilous, with warnings like distress calls often left unheeded. Moreover, it introduced a trailblazing female character in Ellen Ripley, who has since become an iconic figure. The franchise’s success hinges on its unwavering commitment to strong-willed women leading the charge, defending not just themselves but their entire crew.
Today, the Alien franchise continues to thrive, as proven by “Alien: Romulus” demonstrating that the world of xenomorphs still holds potential in Hollywood. The movie grossed over $350 million and earned praise from critics. Upcoming in the series is the TV show “Alien: Earth,” created by Noah Hawley from Fargo, serving as a prequel to the 1979 film. Although not officially confirmed, it’s rumored that Alien: Romulus director Fede Álvarez is penning a script for a sequel to his 2024 film that rekindled the franchise.
June Won’t Be a Great Month for ‘Alien’ Fans, But Also for Fans of This “Cousin” Franchise
For fans of horror sci-fi, it’s not just a treat to immerse in what promises to be an extended viewing experience with the Weyland-Yutani corporation. Hulu is further expanding its collection by including another related franchise. The ‘Alien vs. Predator’ movies, mentioned earlier as crossovers within the ‘Alien’ series, will be available, but Hulu will also offer the standalone ‘Predator’ films.
- Predator (1987)
- Predator 2 (1990)
- Predators (2010)
- The Predator (2018)
Prey, the 2022 Predator prequel is already streaming on Hulu.
2025 marks the unveiling of not just one, but two new “Predator” movies. First up, in June, comes “Predator: Killer of Killers”, an animated anthology helmed by directors Dan Trachtenberg and Micho Rutare from the film “Prey”. Following this, in November, we have “Predator: Badlands”, a live-action sequel. Interestingly, both films are directed by Dan Trachtenberg as well.
