Fans of the popular series Solo Leveling are feeling a significant void since Season 2 concluded without any updates on Season 3. Both anime and manhwa enthusiasts alike are eagerly awaiting more action from this thrilling series, as not a moment was dull throughout the last two seasons. Given their excitement, it’s no wonder they miss the adrenaline rush provided by Solo Leveling while fully caught up. Fortunately, there’s some good news – the ongoing sequel manhwa, titled Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, could be exactly what fans are craving for.
As a dedicated fan, I can’t contain my excitement about the return of “Solo Leveling” with its sequel, “Solo Leveling: Ragnarok.” Even though the original manhwa concluded in 2023 after 179 chapters and an epilogue, it didn’t take long for a new chapter to begin. The sequel offers a captivating read for fans who have kept up with both the anime and the manhwa.
“Solo Leveling: Ragnarok,” based on a web novel with 247 chapters and counting, made its debut on Kakao Webtoon in August 2024, and was available to English-speaking readers on Tapas in November 2024. With 36 episodes already published on Tapas, the Korean version has completed its first season with a total of 47 episodes.
Though penned by a different writer named Daul instead of the original creator Chugong, “Solo Leveling: Ragnarok” manages to retain all the enchantment of the original series while telling a fresh, compelling story that checks all the boxes for an excellent sequel. If you’re still eager for more adventures in the world of “Solo Leveling,” don’t miss out on this exciting new chapter!
Solo Leveling Has An Excellent Sequel Manhwa Waiting to Be Discovered
Written by Daul and illustrated by Jin, “Solo Leveling: Ragnarok” is the sequel to the popular manhwa “Solo Leveling,” which was also produced by Redice Studio. Although it features new writers and artists, “Solo Leveling: Ragnarok” does not disappoint in comparison to the original series. While some may have concerns given the success of the original series due to its excellent artwork by DUBU and rapid storytelling by Chugong, fans can expect a continuation that still retains the familiar and inviting style of both the writing and visuals.
From my perspective as an observer, I’d like to share some insights about the intriguing narrative that unfolds in “Solo Leveling: Ragnarok”. For those who haven’t delved into this captivating sequel series before, it revolves around Sung Suho, the son of Jinwoo and Hae-in. The story resumes from where it ended in the epilogue of “Solo Leveling”, with a fresh start marked by the return of the portals and hunters. However, there’s a perplexing twist: Suho’s parents have inexplicably vanished.
Despite his powers being suppressed as a child to ensure a normal life, destiny has its own plans for Suho. As a new and even more formidable force emerges, threatening the sanctity of our planet, he finds himself involuntarily awakening his untapped abilities and breaking the seals that confined them. This ominous presence is referred to as the Outer Gods or Itarim – essentially, beings of immense power from other dimensions.
Meanwhile, Jinwoo engages in battles with Itarim’s troops in space, whereas Suho focuses on locating the Itarim’s Apostles hiding on Earth, simultaneously searching for his lost mother. To succeed in this mission, Suho must significantly enhance his strength first. Fortunately, similar to Jinwoo, Suho acquires a System to aid him and a helpful ally named Beru, sent from Jinwoo, who serves as both a guide and loyal friend on Earth.
Solo Leveling: Ragnarok Isn’t Just Another Solo Leveling Copy
In the storyline of Ragnarok, we see the return of cherished characters such as Beru, Esil, Jinho, Woo Jinchul, Choi Jong-in, and Lim Tae-gyu, alongside formidable adversaries like Kasaka and the Giant Aarachnid. Remarkably, Ragnarok also broadens the scope of the world in Solo Leveling, as Suho experiences challenges akin to Jinwoo’s, creating a delightful blend of nostalgia with fresh adventures.
It’s worth noting that “Solo Leveling: Ragnarok” distinguishes itself from its predecessor in several ways. Unlike Suho being a carbon copy of his father or following the same path as Jinwoo, this sequel series offers a unique and distinct narrative. Instead of being a quick, money-grabbing replica, it delves deeper into the series’ mythology and world-building, surpassing the depth achieved in the original series. The storyline may evoke nostalgia, but “Solo Leveling: Ragnarok” stands on its own with substantial expansion of the universe’s lore.
Initially, both Suho and Jinwoo share a strong determination, but their personalities are distinct. Suho begins with an air of arrogance and self-assurance that soon fades when he grapples with the challenges of his hunter rank, which initially places him at the E-rank, similar to Jinwoo’s beginning. Apart from personality differences, Suho also prefers a combat style unlike Jinwoo’s. Unlike Jinwoo who predominantly uses twin daggers, Suho initially opts for gauntlets and close combat, focusing more on his strength rather than intelligence at the outset.
As I watch the narrative unfold, Suho significantly expands his combat approach, blending distinct talents of his own with Ruler’s Authority and shadow manipulation. It’s evident that he showcases far more originality in employing his powers compared to Jinwoo, mirroring his character history as an ambitious artist. Initially aiming to mimic his father’s path, Suho decides to transcend the role of Shadow Monarch, and it is precisely this transformation that makes Solo Leveling: Ragnarok a compelling sequel.
