As a cinephile with a penchant for British period dramas, I must say that the latest episode of All Creatures Great and Small has once again proved to be a delightful treat. The humor in this week’s installment was particularly endearing, as James Herriot found himself in a rather peculiar situation involving a calf and a bucket!

View Urgent ForecastThis week, I’m thrilled to dive back into the world of “All Creatures Great and Small,” where our hero, Nicholas Ralph as James Herriot, finds himself taken aback by an unexpected encounter with a calf!
James learns from a nearby farmer that his latest calf might be “in danger” or “at risk,” which concerns James enough for him to go and check on it himself.
However, the situation becomes comical as it seems the calf is perfectly healthy, prompting the farmer to quip at Richard Carmody, “Didn’t I ever say he was sick? Perhaps he has stage fright instead.
Looking at each other, Carmody and James wait anxiously as the farmer advises them, hinting that something exciting is about to happen. Indeed, the young calf suddenly kicks the bucket, causing it to topple over!
Every time I give him milk,” the farmer notes, “he spills it all and refuses to drink a single drop. If he continues like this, he’ll eventually starve.
With a grin, James says: “So he’s not kicking the bucket, he’s kicking that bucket!”
You can watch all the action above!
According to the plot summary, in the upcoming episode set for Thursday, we find Helen gradually understanding that James requires some time to adapt to life with an infant. Judging from the preview, it seems that James is putting forth an effort to do so!
In the meantime, Mrs. Hall finds herself in a difficult situation due to disagreements between Siegfried and her new supervisor, Mr. Bosworth, regarding safety procedures.
Last week marked the commencement of Season 5 for All Creatures Great and Small, bringing viewers back to Darrowby where the arrival of young Jimmy, a new member of the Skeldale House family, has kept everyone quite occupied.
Throughout the season, viewers can observe Helen growing accustomed to motherhood, while Mrs. Hall and Siegfried delight in the presence of a young one, and Carmody seamlessly becoming a fixture within their home.
All Creatures Great and Small continues Thursdays at 9pm on Channel 5 and My5.
