As a devoted fan of All Creatures Great and Small, I eagerly anticipate the fifth season, particularly the return of James (Nicholas Ralph) and Tristan (Callum Woodhouse). Having watched these characters grow over the past seasons, I feel like a member of the Darrowby family myself.
As a devoted cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that the upcoming fifth season of All Creatures Great and Small brings me home to Skeldale House once more. The talented Callum Woodhouse reprises his role as Tristan, while Nicholas Ralph’s character, James, makes a return as well. After lending his service to the RAF at the end of the previous season, James is back with us again!
It’s still uncertain how James’s homecoming story will unfold, but Ralph has hinted that it may not turn out as James anticipated.
He said: “James thinks he’s going to come back and be Super Vet, Super Dad, and juggle both roles seamlessly. But the reality is quite different.
Balancing being a new parent and also being a veterinarian has turned out to be far more difficult than he initially thought. This juggling act, filled with unexpected twists, provides an exciting dynamic to his day-to-day life.
James finds solace in the fact that Helen has many people who care for her deeply nearby – Siegfried, Mrs. Hall, Carmody, all at Skeldale, her father, and Jenny are just around the corner. However, it’s undeniable that it’s a considerable responsibility for her.
Ralph went on to say: “Upon James’ return and resuming his fatherly responsibilities, it becomes increasingly apparent to him how much Helen has been working tirelessly alone during the past couple of months.
He values her actions even more after returning, when he witnesses firsthand how she manages everything, including caring for a newborn.
Regarding Tristan’s coming back, actor Samuel West hinted that the welcome for him and his reunion with his brother Siegfried might not be a straightforward or joyous event.
West made it clear that the person has undergone a significant transformation, one that he doesn’t completely grasp. It appears this change is linked to experiences that are distressing and unspoken, as the individual seems to be hiding behind alcohol and a cheerful demeanor.
