In the world of The Sims, each new version has introduced unique life stages, but The Sims 4 stands out with an impressive variety compared to its predecessors. As more expansions are unveiled, this array keeps expanding. Life stages in The Sims offer a fun way to diversify the families you control. While they don’t drastically alter gameplay, they do introduce distinct needs that keep your Sims content. If you fancy exploring lives beyond human, such as becoming a werewolf or mermaid, then you’ll find plenty of enjoyment in experimenting with different life stages.
Certain Sim lives offer conveniences for easier care, like Plant Sims due to their fewer needs. On the other hand, some lives resemble regular Sims but with unique quirks, such as a vampire’s inability to tolerate sunlight. Notably, many life states are expansion-related, which means you’ll need to spend money to access most of them.
1) Standard Sims
You’ll probably recognize these Sims best – they’re the everyday human ones that come with every edition of the game and serve as the default when creating new Sims. These standard Sims can also be transformed into different life states, so you’re not stuck being a regular human during your entire playtime of The Sims, especially in The Sims 4. Furthermore, there are certain life states that allow you to return to being a standard Sim if you grow tired of being in a state like a Plant Sim.
2) Plant Sims
In The Sims 4, Plant Sims aren’t fresh additions, they made their debut in The Sims: Makin’ Magic, serving only as an aesthetic modification. However, in The Sims 4, your character can transform into a Plant Sim by consuming the Forbidden Fruit. This transformation subtly changes their requirements, like converting the bladder function into a need for water. After five days, your Sim reverts back to normal. To maintain the Plant Sim lifestyle permanently, you’ll require assistance from mods.
3) Skeleton Sims
In the Jungle Adventure expansion for The Sims 4, Skeleton Sims are introduced as a new temporary life state. Similar to Plant Sims, your Sim will eventually revert back to being a standard Sim once the time limit on this life state has passed. You can turn your Sim into a skeleton by interacting with certain relics found during a vacation in Selvadorada. As a skeleton, your Sim won’t have bladder, hunger, energy, or hygiene needs for two days before automatically returning to their normal life state.
4) Alien Sims
In The Sims 4: Get to Work expansion pack, aliens make their reappearance! This time around, these extraterrestrial beings offer a wider range of skin tones, including shades of blue and purple, in addition to the traditional green. Apart from this, they share similarities with human Sims, as they can don regular clothing, but their voices carry a metallic undertone. Unlike ordinary Sims, Alien Sims possess unique abilities such as Analyze Personality, which allows you to discern a Sim’s traits before interacting with them, and Empathize, which enables you to experience the emotions of the chosen Sim.
5) Ghost Sims
Since the inception of the initial “Sims” game, specters have been present, but “The Sims 4” offers more possibilities than any other iteration. In case you weren’t aware, the Ghost life state is assigned to Sims who have passed away. With “The Sims 4”, you can choose whether a deceased Sim becomes a playable or non-playable ghost character upon death. The manner of their demise can provide unique interactions, such as ghosts who perished in a fire can now put out fires or start them if they’re agitated.
Because they’re no longer alive, ghosts don’t require essential needs, but they exhibit moodlets that reflect their emotional condition. Although this state is typically permanent, it can become temporary as ghosts can be resurrected using Ambrosia, the Book of Life, the Whispering Wishing Well, or the Dedeathify Spell.
6) Mermaid Sims
In The Sims 4: Island Living, you have the option to choose Mermaid as a life state when creating a new character. If you’d like to transform an existing Sim into a Mermaid, they should consume Mermadic Kelp and swim while experiencing the Strange Sensations moodlet. Born Mermaids can occur when one or both parents are Mermaids; having one Mermaid parent gives the child a 50% chance of being a Mermaid, while both parents being Mermaids ensures the child will be a Mermaid too.
Instead of needing Hygiene, Mermaids have a requirement for Hydration, which can be affected by factors such as sunlight, utilizing their abilities, and spending extended times in pools or hot tubs. Some skills that Mermaids possess include summoning rain with their Call Rainstorm ability, and granting the Sim they touch with the Mermaid’s Kiss the power to remain submerged for longer durations while the effect persists.
7) Servo
As a gamer immersed in the vibrant world of The Sims 4, I’ve stumbled upon an intriguing addition: the Servo life state! Unlike my existing Sims, I can’t transform them into Servos, but once I construct and activate one, it becomes a part of my household. Upon activation, these mechanical marvels are assigned a set of random preferences, from likes and dislikes to turn-ons and turn-offs, as well as unique traits and an aspiration. Should I wish to modify their characteristics, I can do so by reprogramming them!
To keep track of, there are four key aspects for servos: Enjoyment (Fun), Interaction (Social), Longevity (Durability), and Power Supply (Charge). The Charge is essentially its energy source, whereas Durability gauges the overall health of the servo. If the Durability depletes completely, the servo will fail.
8) Spellcaster Sims
In the game The Sims 4: Realm of Magic, you’ll find that Spellcasters share many similarities with regular Sims, but they possess unique abilities such as casting spells and brewing potions. Any ordinary Sim can transform into a Spellcaster via the Rite of Ascension, while a Spellcaster may revert back to an ordinary Sim using the Rite of Dissolution. Beyond their basic needs, Spellcasters also have a Charge meter that indicates how successful magic use will be and how likely it is for them to inadvertently cast a curse instead. If this Charge gauge frequently reaches Dangerously Overcharged, the Sim may suffer from Spellcaster Overload and eventually perish.
9) Vampire Sims
Remarkably, Vampires are introduced in “The Sims 4: Vampires” expansion pack. Instead of hunger, they have a thirst requirement which is fulfilled by feeding on another Sim or consuming plasma. They exhibit standard and dark forms, possess supernatural abilities, and a heightened sensitivity to sunlight that necessitates keeping them away from daylight. Capabilities like mind control and transforming into a bat can be acquired.
In the game “Create a Sim,” Sims can transform into Vampires in two ways: either they are born from parents who are Vampires, and this occurs with a 50% chance for each Vampire parent; or they are transformed by another Vampire. Later on, if a Vampire consumes The Ultimate Vampire Cure, they can be cured of their vampirism.
10) Werewolf Sims
In the game titled “The Sims 4: Werewolves“, the characters known as Werewolves have been incorporated. A Sim can transform into a Werewolf in several ways: by creating one with the “Create a Sim” feature, by having Werewolf parents with a 50% chance for each parent, by being bitten by another Werewolf, or by acquiring the condition called Werebies and failing to treat it. A Werewolf character has both human and Werewolf forms. The lunar cycle influences when a Werewolf undergoes transformation between these two forms, but also offers unique advantages and skills based on the specific stage of the cycle.
Much like spellcasters, werewolves share common requirements with ordinary Sims; however, they possess an additional gauge known as Fury. This Fury level represents the extent to which a werewolf can control their beastly nature. As Fury rises, their capacity for normal communication diminishes, and they exhibit more animal-like behaviors. Moreover, the behavior of werewolves in their wolf forms is influenced by a characteristic known as temperament.
11) Fairy Sims
In the upcoming game expansion called “The Sims 4: Enchanted by Nature“, fairies will be introduced as a new life state. These fairies can either be Harmonious or Discordant, and they can be created through the “Create a Sim” feature or with assistance from Mother Nature. Despite not being released yet, it seems that fairies will possess unique abilities powered by emotions and have the ability to fly due to their diminutive size in their natural form.
Living situations offer an entertaining means to diversify your Sim families and bring a fresh perspective to the gameplay experience in The Sims 4. Given that
