As a tech-savvy gamer with a long history of Call of Duty fandom, I must say that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has pleasantly surprised me. I had sworn off the franchise when Modern Warfare rebooted, but with Xbox Game Pass, I found myself drawn back in. However, it wasn’t love at first sight; the Team Deathmatch and Free for All modes left me cold, filled as they were with sweaty players more concerned with their KD ratios than having fun.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has just dropped, and to be honest, I wouldn’t have given it a try if it weren’t for Xbox Game Pass. Admittedly, missing out on this game could have been a regretful decision since it’s quite enjoyable. However, my gaming journey with Call of Duty took a break when the first Modern Warfare reboot came along. Prior to that, I was a dedicated annual player of the series.
However, it’s not just about Game Pass that’s making it enjoyable again, it’s the overall experience – the movement, the majority of the maps, and the weaponry. Frankly, I’m having a great time with it. Interestingly, this wasn’t always the case in the beginning.
Here’s what I ended up doing: I adjusted a bit in the multiplayer game selection, removing modes that weren’t fun for me to play anymore. This minor change rekindled my enthusiasm, and now I’m all set to jump back into Call of Duty with renewed vigor!
Let me share my experience, and I believe it could be helpful for you if you find yourself in a similar situation as I once was.
Eliminate Team Deathmatch and Free for All from your playlist options
In Call of Duty multiplayer, there are two game modes that I’ve never found enjoyable – Team Deathmatch and Free for All. To me, these are where you often encounter the most competitive, or as I’d say, ‘dedicated’ players. They seem focused on maintaining their Kill/Death (KD) ratio above all else. This assessment is purely based on my personal experience.
It appears that Black Ops 6 continues the trend with a prevalence of snipers, often finding myself respawning near an enemy ready to eliminate me in the blink of an eye, and yes, it’s noticeable when apparent cheaters manage to bypass the Ricochet system.
Navigate to the multiplayer mode and within the quick play options, the initial option reads “Search for a Game.” To the right of it, there’s another option labeled as “‘Filter’“, which can be accessed by pressing X (Xbox controller) or R (PC keyboard).
After that, you can easily uncheck any of the game modes you prefer not to participate in. Personally, I’ve excluded the ones I’ve previously mentioned, along with Search and Destroy, since I’m not fond of that particular mode.
From now on, when you perform a search for matches, you won’t be unexpectedly placed into any game modes that you’ve previously disabled. This change has significantly enhanced my gaming experience. The objective-based game modes, such as Kill Confirmed and Kill Order, which still have a focus on killing, foster a more competitive and engaging style of play. It’s not flawless every time, but overall, it’s a substantial improvement.
A genuine surprise how enjoyable Black Ops 6 is
Although I used to be a longtime fan of Call of Duty (regardless of my lackluster skills), I’ve lost interest in it over the past few years. The modifications made to the gameplay mechanics post-Black Ops 4 left me unimpressed, and I can’t stand the transformation of the series into something resembling Fortnite, with its outlandish character skins.
At heart, Black Ops 6 delivers an enjoyable gaming experience. The revamped Omnimovement system is truly impressive, offering a swift and seamless gameplay, while the initial map selection, excluding Babylon, hits the mark (Babylon, however, seems like a replica of Shipment).
I haven’t had a chance to experience either the campaign or Zombies yet, but I must say that the current multiplayer action is quite enjoyable for me. To be honest, I wouldn’t dare touch the modes mentioned in this discussion with a ten-foot pole right now, but after making some adjustments, I’m content and hope it stays this way moving forward.
