Allison Holker Was an “Almond Mom” to Daughter Weslie

When it comes to a well-balanced lifestyle, Allison Holker is shaking off her previous POV.

Indeed, regarding the parenting approach of the former contestant on “So You Think You Can Dance,” it was alleged by her 17-year-old child, Weslie, that she had a somewhat fanatical emphasis on health during her upbringing.

In a recent episode of their “Between Us” podcast on June 22nd, the eldest child said, “Growing up, she was always like an almond mom to me. I tell her that often now. She’d make sure we ate our greens and have chicken for dinner every night.

Moreover, Allison, who is a mother to Maddox, 9, and Zaia, 5, with her late husband Stephen “tWitch” Boss, couldn’t refute the allegations.

Weslie and I were indeed one in the same, as the 37-year-old confessed. I maintained a firm discipline, always cooking meals and preparing organic lunches for school. There wasn’t a single processed snack to be found. Instead, there were various types of nuts, an assortment of dried fruits.

However, unlike Weslie who was closely monitored with regards to her diet during childhood, it seems that her younger siblings have less stringent rules imposed on their eating habits.

Weslie joked, “I really enjoy a tasty potato chip, but she won’t let me have one,” and went on to say that her mother’s style of parenting has changed dramatically lately. “She no longer seems to mind!

What led Allison to change her mind, you ask? She came to understand that perhaps she had overstepped a bit, despite her noble motives.

Weslie and I had a conversation where I declared, ‘Alright, we’re going to make this work. I want to be the best mom I can be,'” the dancer shared. “At that point, my idea of being a good mother involved maintaining a healthy environment. I became meticulous about the ingredients in our home and made sure they were all safe. While I may have been overly cautious at times, I believe it ultimately benefited us.

She went on to say, “Perhaps my motivations weren’t entirely clear, but I did strive for us to lead a balanced lifestyle.” She then explained, “I thought, ‘I want to be an exemplary mother by making this choice.’ It turned out to be a beneficial decision for me as it broadened my knowledge. However, I’ve learned everything requires moderation.

Whenever Weslie wasn’t under her mother’s watchful eye, she would seize any chance to indulge in a multitude of snacks from gas stations. It was at this point that Allison understood that fostering balance instead of imposing restrictions was the most effective method for instilling healthy habits in her children.

Allison observed that our home offers many healthy choices, yet she also believes in allowing her children the freedom to be kids. She discovered an extra measure of joy from this approach as well. Essentially, she’s aiming to find a balance between discipline and flexibility with Weslie and now with Maddox and Zaia.
