11 bit studios’ upcoming sci-fi survival, strategy, and exploration game, The Alters, has held our attention since its initial announcement trailer. Following today’s Triple-I Initiative presentation, we now know the date when infinite cloning will become a reality: June 13.
In a bleak, far-off future, the story of The Alters unfolds, primarily focusing on Jan, a solitary figure who finds himself in dire straits on an isolated world. Within just three days, a looming sunrise poses grave threats to his existence.
For Jan to have a chance at living and leaving the planet, he must manufacture clones that possess distinct skill sets. Ordinary clones won’t suffice in this case; instead, he requires clones who can perform tasks the group as a whole needs to thrive, necessitating a reconsideration of the decisions made throughout his life to locate alternate versions of himself with these required abilities.
Altering the decisions made in Jan’s life results in distinct clone versions originating from various life experiences. These diverse clones can specialize in tasks such as resource extraction, food production to sustain the community, and research for constructing infrastructure.
Each member of the Alters possesses distinct abilities, yet they all harbor individual motivations, desires, requirements, and aspirations. Your task is to orchestrate the collective and individual aspects of this group to ensure seamless operation.
As a researcher studying the clones in The Alters, I observed intriguing contrasts depicted in the trailer unveiled during the Triple-I Initiative showcase. In this narrative, Botanist Jan becomes overly focused on reconnecting with his wife, which unfortunately leads to a lack of attention towards food production and ultimately, food scarcity for the group. On the other hand, Miner Jan exhibits signs of mental strain, leading to a series of mishaps resulting in injuries. His situation escalates to the point where he resorts to an extreme action – amputating his own arm.
The choices the player makes for Jan significantly impact not only Jan’s destiny, but also the team’s prospects of making it through safely.
In The Alters, it’s not only that characters find themselves confined within a space station; they will also be compelled to venture onto a perilous planet where Jan is stranded. Their responsibilities extend beyond mere survival – they must search for precious resources, work on the development of essential infrastructure such as bridges, and potentially facilitate their own rescue by doing so.

11 bit studios’ long-awaited survival adventure and strategy game, Alters, will be available for both Xbox and PC starting June 13th. On the same day,
