Amanda Abbington claims Giovanni Pernice “doesn’t want anyone to see” 50 hours of “blocked” Strictly footage

Amanda Abbington claims Giovanni Pernice “doesn’t want anyone to see” 50 hours of “blocked” Strictly footage

As a follower of Strictly Come Dancing and someone who has seen Amanda Abbington‘s heart-wrenching interviews regarding her experiences with Giovanni Pernice during their time on the show, I am deeply troubled and concerned by the allegations she has made.

Amanda Abbington, a previous contestant on Strictly Come Dancing and an actress known for her role in Sherlock, has asserted that approximately 50 hours of concealed video recordings are involved in her persistent allegations against professional dancer Giovanni Pernice.

In an interview with Channel 4 News, Abbington labeled the rehearsal room as unfavorable towards Krishnan Guru-Murthy and shared that she brought up her issues to the producers during the initial stage of the competition. Every week thereafter, their rehearsal footage was examined.

Each week, the show’s producers would express shock, horror, and deep regret when they watched back the rehearsal footage with her present.

She added: “This constitutes bullying and hostile conduct. Additionally, there were distressing incidents that occurred, which women often need to handle discreetly within the confines of the room, or else how would one cope?”

Approximately fifty hours of recording are being kept from public view. (Amanda Abbington shares with Krishnan Guru-Murthy that Strictly producers expressed shock and dismay upon revisiting footage of her rehearsals with Giovanni Pernice, who refutes allegations of abusive behavior.)

According to Abbington, her lawyer isn’t permitted to view the footage, yet Pernice seems reluctant for others to watch it, suggesting there may be something concealed.

Pernice repeatedly maintains that accusations of him displaying “abusive or threatening conduct” toward his past dance partners are completely “unfounded.”

In an Instagram post last June, Pernice shared: “Contrary to recent allegations, I’ve never engaged in any form of abusive or threatening behavior. The latest claims are unfounded. I’m fully cooperating with the ongoing BBC investigation for a fair and accurate resolution.”

At your command, I’ve kept quiet so far. But I eagerly anticipate the end of this investigation and proving my innocence, revealing the true facts.

As a devoted cinema enthusiast, I’ve been following the recent developments regarding the ongoing BBC review process involving Abbington’s latest interview and Pernice’s team. In response to the media buzz surrounding this issue, my team and I have decided to cooperate fully with the investigation. We understand that all parties involved have been asked to maintain silence until the review is complete. Rest assured, we will continue to uphold the integrity of the investigation and trust that it provides the ideal platform for a comprehensive evaluation of all relevant evidence.

During our investigation based on verified information, the BBC has passed on to us the accusations they have confirmed. These accusations don’t match Amanda’s recent claims made to Channel 4 in any way.

“Giovanni denies allegations of threatening or abusive actions and has given the BBC proof to support this. He believes the investigation will validate his stance.”

During an interview on Channel 4 News, Guru-Murthy (who had previously participated in a dancing competition) asked: “Is it true that there was an embarrassing sexual incident?”

Abbington is visibly upset as she replies: “Yeah… one of the many things.”

At Lorraine, Abbington expressed her desire for an apology from the BBC. She stated: “An apology is what I’m seeking. I don’t want this to happen to employees at the corporation once more. Women deserve to be listened to and respected.”

Currently, the BBC is still looking into Abbington’s allegations against Pernice. As a result, Pernice has left the long-standing show after having been a consistent presence for the previous nine years.

As a long-time fan of Pernice, I can understand why he feels so strongly about his role in Strictly Come Dancing. For those who have watched him over the past ten years, it’s clear that he is passionate and competitive by nature. I, too, have seen his dedication to his dance partners and can attest to his unwavering ambition for their success.

“Throughout our dancing journey together, I have worked hard to help you reach your full potential as dancers. This motivation stems from a deep affection for dance and a competitive spirit – one that benefits both me and my partners. Once again, I’m grateful for the unwavering love and encouragement you’ve shown us.” – Giovanni.

The BBC has remained silent on the current investigation, but earlier released a statement: “We understand that our programs have been enjoyable for many participants. We take seriously any concerns brought to us and promise to handle them with great care, impartiality, and consideration for all parties involved. We will not provide further comment at this time.”

Lately, Tim Davie, the head of BBC, has expressed his apologies following allegations brought forth by previous participants of the program.

He said he was “very sorry that anyone has had an experience that hasn’t been wholly positive”.

As a movie enthusiast, I’ve realized that there are some important lessons we overlooked during our filmmaking workshops. I apologize for this oversight and acknowledge the need for reflection on how we can improve our supervision in these sessions.

Strictly Come Dancing will return later this year.
